Meeting the Needs of Hilltop’s Growing Regulatory and Contract Compliance Practice

Hilltop is hiring experienced consultants/auditors (as either full-time or project-based employees) that have performed bank and/or mortgage regulatory consulting (OCC, FDIC, FED, SBA, FHA, VA, Ginnie Mae, CFPB and other Federal and state regulators) or contract compliance consulting (GSEs, loan buyers, securities trusts, credit enhancement companies, Trustees for securitized loan pools, investors, etc.).

Our preferred candidates will have the following experience and skills:

  • performing regulatory compliance risk assessments i.e. what is the risk level of the client not complying, what are the deficiencies (if any) and the remediation efforts that will satisfy the regulator,
  • helping write, implement and test new policies (making sure the CMS is appropriate),
  • helping establish and test newly implemented procedures and controls,
  • performing a comprehensive or targeted review (i.e. a mock exam to assess compliance using the same approach that the regulators use and prepare accordingly),
  • assisting clients with preparing for a regulatory exam and to gather/review documents requested by the examiner,
  • assisting clients with remediation efforts after the examiner has issued its report and has concluded that the company has received a Regulatory order (Consent Order, MOU, MRA),
  • assisting the client by providing requested documentation and helping the client to demonstrate that the Company has implemented the regulatory examiner’s audit requirements to become compliant or remediate the non-compliance,
  • assisting the Company’s Internal Audit team with their review of the regulatory compliance controls and Compliance Management System (primarily bank and mortgage entities),
  • providing regulatory compliance training for Bank, SBA or mortgage related regulations,
  • help clients select, implement and test technology applications to comply with regulations,
  • the contract compliance uses the same process as noted above for the regulatory compliance engagements.

We are looking to hire candidates who have a strong background in and understanding of the regulatory and contract compliance requirements for financial services companies (with heavy focus on the Bank and Mortgage companies). Preferred candidates will have:

  • a Bachelor’s degree (accounting, finance, economics, certain IT degrees, other degrees may be considered depending on previous experience),
  • 4 - 15 years of bank/mortgage compliance consulting experience,
  • senior management candidates will be required to have accounting/audit/consulting firm experience of at least 15+ years and demonstrated ability to identify, propose and sell new client work),
  • previously worked as a Federal bank examiner, CFPB examiner, SBA examiner, Big 4 bank/mortgage regulatory compliance auditor/consultant, bank or mortgage compliance areas, etc.,
  • strong communications and interpersonal/teamwork skills,
  • analytical skills with an attention to detail,
  • strong writing skills,
  • strong teamwork skills,
  • other valuable skills are a plus:
    • Fraud Investigations and Vulnerability engagement experience,
    • FBI “White collar crime” investigator experience,
    • Follow the Money and Anti- Money Laundering experience,
    • Bank Secrecy Act experience,
    • Fair lending and HMDA experience,
    • Cyber security controls and compliance experience.

Our preferred hire will have both industry and consulting experience. Candidates (we have opportunities for both full time consultants and Project Based consultants) that meet the requirements noted above. Candidate’s title and salary is dependent upon their relevant experience (quality, “fit” and less about number of years). Hilltop has a strong “pay for performance” structure which includes sales commissions, chargeability bonuses, referral bonuses for identified/hired professionals, etc. Hilltop’s benefit package is competitive with other firms. Some travel (after the pandemic) will be required for client engagements (typically short term and rarely for our Federal clients).
