This full-time salaried position is an excellent opportunity for mid-career employees to step into the role of creative director. At Herdmark, the Creative Lead will work collaboratively with team members to execute a wide variety of creative projects, mainly consisting of high-value video productions.

Responsibilities include:

  • Working collaboratively with clients, team members, and the project Director to establish a creative vision and manage the creative process for all Herdmark projects.
  • Working collaboratively with clients, team members and the project Director to write scripts, interview questions, draw storyboards, outline visual concepts.
  • Working collaboratively with the project Producer to approve scripts, interview questions, storyboards, and visual concepts with clients.
  • Developing and implementing a system for recruiting, hiring, managing and organizing part-time and contract based creative talent required to execute projects. This includes voiceover talent, audio technicians, directors, camera operators, designers, writers, photographers and other creatives needed to maximize the vision for a project and bring it to reality within budget.
  • Managing and training a team of Editing Assistants that will execute post production processes to organize projects, import files, and pull selects for the lead editor on video projects.
  • Edit video interviews for story and length
  • Ensuring creative direction of projects are met, client brand standards are adhered to strictly, and the quality of project deliverables are held to an exceptional standard.
  • Oversee all project editing and ensure all members of the editing team maintain highly detailed file organization structure for existing projects.
  • Execute archival and backup of delivered projects.
  • Work hand in hand with the Production Lead to ensure all projects are completed effectively and on time.
  • Ensure accurate tracking of time investments for self and direct reports
  • Ensure accurate billing and tracking for all contract based project collaborators
  • Attending Herdmark video shoots and serving, as needed, to manage lighting, sound, camera and rigging setups, assist the project Director and work collaboratively with other crew members.
  • Contribute to Field Notes (blog) of the Herdmark Media, Inc. website.

  • Proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects is a required part of the job, however Herdmark Media will train the right candidate.
  • Proficiency with photography and/or video production is highly desirable and will directly influence salary.
  • A portfolio of creative work is required.
  • Must be capable of lifting 50 lbs., carrying heavy objects over long distances and sometimes rugged terrain. Must be capable of sustaining the required workload over long hours under the physical and mental duress of a video shoot day.

Compensation & Benefits

Compensation: $TBD based on experience

Benefits: Monthly $380 bonus for own medical, dental, and vision plan

Professional development: up to $500 to use each year toward classes, online training, event registration, or other as agreed upon.

Resources: Workspace and office supplies will be provided in the Herdmark office. Herdmark will also supply computer and all necessary software.

Vacation/Sick Time/Maternity Leave/Compensatory Time: Unlimited. Employees are required to take at least 10 days vacation time per year.

Holidays: Paid holidays include New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve Day, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Eve Day. Additionally, Herdmark will be closed and, with the exception of impending/missed deadlines, no work will be required between Christmas and New Year’s.

Travel: Travel will be required to attend video shoots as needed, throughout the United States and often overnight. All travel expenses will be paid by Herdmark Media, Inc. Anticipated travel approx. 20%. Comp time will be made available when travel is extensive.


Work will be executed at the Herdmark Media office in Wooster, Ohio, in the field on-location, and, at times, at a home office. Evening and weekend availability is required.


The Creative Lead’s success will be evaluated by his/her willingness to contribute to the collaborative creative process, leadership of direct reports, honesty, efficiency, timeliness, quality of end product delivered to clients, efficiency, timeliness, reliability and ability to stay with a task until it is completed.

The Creative Lead is required to be available to train, assist and direct Herdmark Editing Assistants. This means some evening and weekend time will be required in the Herdmark Office as well as evening and weekend availability by phone to answer questions as they arise.

The Creative Lead may encounter very long days, especially on shoots and near hard project deadlines. Herdmark’s vacation policy allows employees to utilize compensatory time at their own discretion, however they must remain solely responsible and accountable for their own time contributions. The Creative Lead must meet the required minimum billable hours threshold and is expected to execute tasks by the assigned deadlines without fail.


Must log a minimum of 1,500 billable hours on client projects per year. Employees should expect to work an average of 40-50 hours per week to meet this goal. Some weeks will require more, and other weeks less.

Terms of Employment

All employment at Herdmark begins with a 90-day probationary period.

Dishonesty, falsifying time logs, missing a scheduled intra-office meeting without notifying other attendees (except in the case of injury or accident), missing a scheduled client meeting (except in the case of illness, injury, or accident), or missing a scheduled shoot day (except in the case of illness, injury, or accident) will result in immediate termination. Other grounds for termination include; incompetence or poor quality of work including both quality of deliverables and internal project organization, frequent absences or chronic tardiness, theft, inadequate time logs, poor time management and inappropriate behavior.
