Client is a leader in the design and manufacture of conventional and intermodal transportation equipment (truck trailers) in the United States. It offers grain haulers, vans, domestic containers, container chassis, platform trailers, converter dollies, flatbeds and parts for sale in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. The company was founded in 1961, is privately owned and growing quickly. They have 7 plants in Wisconsin and have approximately 900 non union employees.

The Product Design Engineer position reports to the Manager of Product Engineering and is responsible for 1) leading the design function of custom trailers confirming to customer specifications, industry standards, regulatory laws and manufacturing capabilities and 2) ensuring overall design correctness by working with designers to prepare sketches and mark-up prints for the drafting pool to produce final drawings for product manufacturing.

Essential Functions:
Essential Functions% of TimeResearch and prepare designs and/or design modifications including making layouts and sketches for designers to use to mark-up prints for the drafting pool to produce production drawings.70%Mark-up prints for the drafting pool to produce production drawings.30%Supervise designers, draw checkers, design drafters and drafters on assigned projects.20%Determine when to employ R & D Engineering for structural evaluation/review.5%Provide technical support to Manufacturing, Sales and Purchasing5%Contribute to the team effort to produce a quality product.100%Perform all assigned tasks in a safe, efficient, timely, accurate and highly productive manner according to Company policy.

Knowledge and Skill:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology.
Minimum of 5 years of design experience in the trailer or similar industry (preferably in the trailer industry).
Proven supervisory skills
Strong CAD design experience
Experiece working with steel and aluminum sheet metal and designing welded, boloted, riveted and bonded fabricated assemblies.
Good communication and organizational skils.
