We're calling this position a "Prep Cook" only in the title - in reality, we're looking to hire and train a qualified candidate into the role of a Product Development Technician. A Product Development Technician reports into the Research and Development department, and is responsible for assisting all plant trials and managing the daily operations of the test kitchen, including organizing, stocking and maintaining a clean work environment.
Helps manage all plant trials for the organization for new projects including coordinating pre-ops with QA Technicians, sanitation of equipment and smallwares, issuing product consumption forms, checking raw materials and packaging materials pulls, batching, making labels, recording trial results, managing inventory returns and finished goods, and helps analyze results
Helps coordinate the overall planning and staffing for the trials including attending debrief meetings to ensure key learnings are discussed and process improvement made when applicable
Understands all manufacturing processes on all SKU’s and become proficient with equipment and managing labor for all processes
Manages R&D benchtop trials(protocepts) and plant trials on existing lines by working with Supervisors to explain goals, control formulas, record process control points, makes observations, manages inventory returns and finished goods, and helps analyze results
Understands allergen and organic labeling and storage regulations and organizes R&D inventory accordingly
Manages R&D inventory by location, lot code, amount and expiration
Manages R&D lab product inventory, including ensuring all necessary equipment is available and in working order
Assists with new item shelf life testing
Prepares customer samples for products in the development phase and ensures proper shipping and tracks delivery
Keep lab clean and organized. Follow all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s)
Responsible for maintaining a food safe work environment and in the event it is perceived that it is compromised, action is to be taken which includes stopping the process and notifying the production supervisor, assistant supervisor, or lead on duty

Education & Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent
Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in a food manufacturing or foodservice environment or Bachelor’s degree Food Science or Culinary field
Experience with Good Manufacturing Practices
Able to stand for extended periods of time (10 hours per day)
Able to lift up to 50 lbs
Able to work in both hot/warm conditions
Comfortable with a moderate noise level
Able to work in an environment with peanuts and tree nuts and all allergens
