Position Overview

The Human Resources Generalist will be responsible for providing guidance, support, and coordination in the consistent and effective application of policies, procedures, and practices of the Human Resources department. This position will be tasked with ensuring the accurate completion of multiple administrative duties, which require a high level of organization, attention to detail, and the ability to juggle completing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Functions

Hiring

  • Spearheads onboarding of certain hourly positions (maintenance, warehouse, quality assurance), including but not limited to job postings, applicant tracking, pre-screening, coordinating interviews, background checks, conducting new hire orientation, and other onboarding initiatives
  • Works closely with HR Recruiter in onboarding of Production and Sanitation associates
  • Stays current on hiring needs and takes a proactive and creative stance in finding qualified candidates

Customer Service (Internal)

  • Provides a pro-active, high level of customer service to employees, including prompt responses to emails/messages and assisting with questions/requests/concerns/grievances
  • Demonstrates a kind, professional demeanor to employees, applicants, and coworkers in both verbal and written communications

Administrative

  • Inputs new hires into Paychex (HRIS), ensures all informational fields are correct, and maintains the database current
  • Runs a variety of reports through the HRIS system as needed
  • Assists in bi-weekly payroll processing activities, including but not limited to resignations, promotions, referral bonuses, direct deposit requests, PTO requests, and organizing and distributing paychecks
  • Ensures compliance with Form I-9 requirements and timely E-Verify, including tracking of Work Authorization Permits and corresponding expiration dates
  • Administers Leave of Absence program, including FMLA
  • Completes Employment Verification requests
  • Assists in prompt coordination of involuntary terminations
  • Assists in translation (English/Spanish) of employee communications
  • Assigns and deactivates building access badges as appropriate
  • Assigns employee lockers; maintains locker log up to date
  • Maintains employee files and candidate applications; ensures document retention requirements are met
  • Maintains up-to-date communication boards
  • Assist in coordinating employee teambuilding events/activities

Benefits Administration

  • Processes new enrollments and terminations (COBRA)
  • Ensures eligible employees are offered benefits
  • Other benefit duties as assigned

Employee Development

  • Takes a proactive stance in recommending, designing, and implementing employee soft skill training initiatives
  • Assists in implementation and ongoing improvement of the Performance Management system
  • Responsible for maintaining a food safe work environment and in the event it is perceived that it is compromised, action is to be taken which includes stopping the process and notifying the production supervisor, assistant supervisor, or lead on duty
  • Other duties as assigned

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree OR Human Resources Certification through an accredited agency
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working in Human Resources

Skills & Knowledge

  • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish – both written and verbal) required
  • Demonstrated experience in high-level organization and attention to detail
  • Must be able to learn quickly and handle many tasks during the work week with accuracy and completeness
  • Great interpersonal skills and a can-do attitude
  • Strong level of proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Must have a high degree of confidentiality
  • Must be able to work proactively and be focused on continuous improvement
  • Experience with payroll (HRIS) systems, a plus

Work Environment

  • Able to sit or stand for extended periods of time
  • Comfortable with a moderate noise level
  • Able to work in an environment with allergens
