Firefly Wire Harness Design Engineers will leverage their applicable experience and expertise to develop the electro-mechanical designs of wire harnesses for launch vehicles. Qualified candidates will be responsible for design, drawings, analysis, some hands-on fabrication, supplier management, physical testing of all cable assemblies and integration into the launch vehicle. You will be part of the avionics team and will work closely and collaborate with all other teams across the company.
Work as part of a team to develop and implement harness design for launch vehicle systems
Understand and implement aerospace guidelines for development and design of wire harnesses.
Tailor aerospace harnessing standards and guidelines to create internal design standards and requirements for cable assemblies, shielding, integration, and vehicle level implementation.
Generate electrical schematics to support flight, qualification, and test lab designs.
Create detailed 3D CAD designs and 2D drawings to be used by production and manufacturing.
Support design reviews by presenting design, analysis, and test results, showing harnessing design and manufacturing is qualified for flight.
Build and test prototype harnessing, lab test harnessing, and development harness concepts for immediate test support during R&D.
Selection of appropriate wire harness components and implementation of appropriate twisting, shielding, and bonding of electrical sub-systems.
Bachelor of Science (BS) in electrical or mechanical engineering, or 15 years direct experience
With a BS degree, 3+ years of electro-mechanical wire harness design experience
Experience with wire harness 3D design, wire harness installation drawings, wiring diagrams, and 3D modeling of complex multi-breakout harnesses.
Competent at end-to-end definition, requirements generation, block-diagram design, and selection of connectors, wires, and other harness hardware.
Familiar with the usage of test equipment to verify harness design
Skilled at giving technical presentations to peers, management and external reviewers.
Proficiency with Autodesk products, analysis tools, and ANSYS.
Proficiency with various harness design software platforms
Understanding of basic subsystems of a launch vehicle and how avionics integrate within the vehicle and interface with instrumentation
Experience with environmental testing including thermal cycle, thermal vacuum, shock, and vibration analysis and testing
Understanding of launch vehicle or aerospace grounding and how to implement proper system level grounding via cable harness design.
Experience working with many digital communication protocols including CAN, 802.3(u, ab or others), RS-422, RS-485, UART, etc.
Hands on experience with integration of electronics and cabling in airborne vehicles.
