The Manager Computer Operations is responsible for overseeing the computer operations and production teams.

General Responsibilities:
  • Manages and directs the teams including setting priorities, coordinating, and the reporting of group activities.
  • Provides senior technical leadership to IS including being conversant with the future direction of current data processing and systems, how that direction will impact the enterprise, and how future and current systems can be exploited for the benefit of the enterprise. Given the high level of technical leadership provided by the manager, the Manager Computer Operations also serves as a source of documentation and standards to help direct the activities of IS as a whole
  • Works closely with other teams to coordinate plans and activities including coordination to facilitate specific development projects that involve databases, as well as the coordination of software upgrades and the installation of new database products.
  • Analyzes vendor proposals and maintaining current knowledge of overall data processing vendor capabilities.
  • Conform with and abide by all federal, state, and local regulations, company policies and procedures, and instructions.
  • Adhere to privacy and confidential and proprietary company policies and procedures (i.e. HIPAA).
  • Participate in any/all training and educational activities necessary to fulfill at least the minimum requirements as specified within your departmental goals. This is in addition to, the completion of any activities necessary for the maintenance of professional affiliations or organizational requirements.
  • The ability to work and manage in 24/7 setting.
  • As required by changing business needs, complete additional responsibilities as assigned.

IT Responsibilities:
  • Provides weekly and monthly reports on data processing and enterprise monitoring performance as well as forecasts of future utilization requirements.
  • Consults with and advises other departments within the enterprise regarding data processing and monitoring program use and capabilities.
  • Initiates and directs special projects as required to assess and implement data processing and enterprise communications innovations.
  • Serves as representative of the enterprise to outside data processing associations; interacts with special interest teams and governmental agencies dealing with data processing matters.
  • Develops and reviews technical service level standards for processing, monitoring and reporting activity levels on data processing and systems.
  • Assists in the disaster recovery plan in place on the enterprise databases.
  • Recognizes and identifies potential areas where existing policies and procedures require change, or where new ones need to be developed, especially regarding future business expansion.
  • Coordinate the activities of the data processing, computer operations, and enterprise communications teams with other IS and the enterprise departments.

Production Control Responsibilities:
  • Interface with individual users and departments to assist in defining, prioritizing and processing of work requests.
  • Support the definition, documentation and implementation of all intra and inter-departmental process improvements.
  • Assist in the establishment and reporting of operating metrics and measurements directed at identifying and improving on customer support and responsiveness.
  • Assist in the governance of all established operational controls and quality assurance measures.
  • Work with clients under the direction of CDM if challenge occurs, bringing in appropriate technical resources as required.
  • Monitor and support all turnover processes including new client and release management.
  • Ensure all production and QA process and procedures are followed.
  • Monitor special projects and operational challenge resolution as required.

  • BS or BA degree in computer science, business management or related field, a minimum of 10 years data processing experience may be substituted for the BS/BA degree.
  • MS in computer science or business MBA is highly desirable.

Experience & Background:
  • 5 years of programming experience, three in system programming are required.
  • 5 years of Mainframe and large batch processing experience are required.
  • 5 years of Enterprise Monitoring preferred.
  • Experience with relational technology, telecommunications transaction processing, and advanced tools for database modeling and design is required.
  • Knowledge of mainframe and database systems is highly recommended.
  • Ability to express complex technical concepts effectively, both verbally and in writing is required.
  • Ability to work well with people from many different disciplines with varying degrees of technical experience is required.
