Legal Content Specialist - Telecommute/Remote

SUMMARY Reporting to the CEO, the successful Legal Content Specialist will be responsible for researching, writing, reviewing and/or approving all legal content that is produced by ElderCounsel. The purpose of the research, writing, review and approval is to ensure the information is technically correct, grammatically correct, and that it is consistent with any instructions given for the content if not produced by the Content Specialist. The Content Specialist will be proficient in ElderDocx and its provisions to support our Law and Technology Director in developing new content, supporting questions from our membership, and maintaining the legal content in our Automated Learning Center.


  • Work with the Law and Technology Director to review legal provisions in ElderDocx;
  • Serve as backup for content support questions;
  • Responsible for maintaining content support information on our website;
  • Participate in document development calls;
  • Research when state or national law changes receive research projects from Law & Tech Department;
  • Proactively research state specific information for ElderDocx, for the EC website and for our educational programs;
  • Prepare substantive research papers on new legislation or other topics assigned by the CEO;
  • Negotiate and oversee implementation of contracts for non-employee authors;
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Attorney with experience in drafting irrevocable trusts. Elder law or estate planning experience is preferred;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the tax code as evidenced by prior practice area, LL.M. in Taxation, a history of lecturing on the tax code, or other criteria set by EC to judge the applicant's knowledge;
  • Strong writing skills as demonstrated by published content white papers, legal journal articles, or something similar. Business or Accounting degree required;
  • Self-reliant, good problem solver, results oriented;
  • Must be able to work closely with the team in a virtual environment;
  • Ability to maintain a quiet and appropriate work environment, free of distractions during the workday;
  • Position employees to reside in FL, TX, CO, WI;
  • Occasional travel required for company events.

How success will be evaluated during the first 60 days:

During the first 60 days, the Content Manager will be expected to accomplish the following:

  • Become proficient in ElderDocx and the provisions contained in each document. This proficiency will be demonstrated by the Content Manager's ability to answer questions related to the documents and the legal content contained therein.
  • Prepare no less than 3 substantive legal papers on topics assigned by the CEO. The paper will be evaluated for accuracy, effectiveness in engaging the reader, and timeliness in completing the paper.
  • Adherence to company policy as outlined in the Employee Handbook.

Long term success will be defined by:

  • Ability to complete tasks timely and with accuracy;
  • Produce at least one substantive research paper monthly;
  • Ability to proactively research state specific information and incorporate this information into documents in ElderDocx, our educational programs, and our website;
  • Ability to analyze new legislation and brief the Law and Technology Director and CEO on new legislation and the impact it will have on our documents, planning strategies, and educational programs;
  • Ability to maintain and increase legal information contained in the Automated Learning Center;
  • Ability to interact positively with members when responding to support questions.

Salary: $95K annually
