We're a new educational technology startup looking for help from current teachers, educators, or writers in helping us create and curate new learning materials for classrooms and individual learners. We're building a number of fun free educational tools that leverage recent advances in learning science (e.g., spaced repetition, recall testing) and technology-related advances (e.g., open source materials, adaptive algorithms for personalized learning).
Our first product, Geknowm Pictorial, uses image matching exercises to help learners discover, learn, and retain the most important elements of new or existing domains they're trying to master in areas like history, literature, or science. For younger learners, this might mean learning about classic children's books, dinosaurs, or types of transportation, while for college grads this might mean learning about Modernist authors, computer programming languages, or political movements.
We need help in identifying and prioritizing the most useful Pictorial sets for given grade-levels (inside and outside the classroom) and help in using our tools to identify appropriate images and to draft accompanying learning captions.
While we're still polishing our final product and tools, you can get a sense of where we're going by clicking here: pictorial.geknowm.com/?utm_source=craigslist&utm_medium=post&utm_campaign=seek_teachers_1
This is just the first of many types of learning exercises that we'll be rolling out - later we'll create learning paths that combine a variety of exercises and track a learner's progress in mastering a new learning area.
We're currently hiring a few teachers, educators, and writers to put in a few hours or more a week creating new sets (at $12/hour during the initial phase of the company's launch) - we hope that soon we'll be able to build a community of teachers and educators who build their own learning sets for their classrooms with our free tools, but we want to start by helping seed a number of prototype sets to help kickstart the process. Even if the job posting doesn't interest you, we still hope you'll find our tools helpful, any feedback is welcome.
We're a tech startup in the education space and are passionate about what we do. Founders are a team from Carnegie Mellon and Harvard with lots of bona fides (PhDs in educational theory, computer science, etc.) working to improve cultural literacy and the effectiveness of personalized learning for all types of students and working adults. We're working on a set of interactive tools to help make learning in everything from the Humanities to Science easier and more fun for everyone. The tools are free and we have a very mission-oriented approach.
