Role: High Performance Computing IT Expert Location: Houston, TX Rate Market Rate
Detailed Description of Scope of Work: The High Performance Computing expert's duties may include, but are not limited to the following: • Support multiple Linux computing clusters that hosts engineering and scientific software packages:
o Monitor and ensure uninterrupted operation of computing resources. o Manage queuing systems to ensure optimal utilization of resources. o User and access management of computing resources that include 20+ engineers, corresponding workstations and multiple computing servers. o Knowledge of Linux system's configuration in highly secure corporate IT environments. o Interact with users to configure high-end remote graphics workstations (both Linux and Windows-based systems) to access computing resources. o Install and configure scientific software packages and libraries, and configure access to license servers. Experience with scientific computing with external cloud services (optional • Ability to work with hardware and software vendors for trouble-shooting, installing, and configuring hardware and software packages (both Linux and Windows). • Interact with IT-security and Network infrastructure teams to ensure that both user access and security requirements are satisfied. • Configure workstations and Linux-hosted databases for remote access (PostgreSQL, MySQL). • Configure workstations and clusters for remote access (X, VNC, etc.) • Knowledge of any Linux scripting languages, and more importantly Python is advantageous. • Knowledge of web-programming, specifically Java-scripts is advantageous. • Proficient in the following competencies o 3+ years experience with Linux-based computer systems o Independent, analytical thinking o Effective collaboration & facilitation o Willingness to learn and teach others o Research and test new trends in hardware and computing technologies o Familiarity with Scientific/Numerical Software and how it maps to different hardware o Familiarity with applied mathematics and numerical algorithms Excellent organization, and planning
