R&D Material Formulation Lead

DigiLens the world leader in transparent Augmented Reality Display located in Silicon Valley, California is looking for an experienced Material Formulation Lead, with a proven track record of successful development of organic nanocomposites.

You will lead a team of focused chemists developing the formulation for our new generation nanomaterial for our products, and work together with Materials, Optical and Process Engineering for developing next-generation heads-up displays

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a team of chemists, formulating and developing the new material
  • Synthesis and formulation of high refractive index resins composed of organic/inorganic reagents and liquid crystals.
  • Structure-property relationship analysis and tuning of material properties to meet new Augmented Reality (AR) display requirements.
  • Test materials for optical efficiency, reliability, and shelf-life.
  • Tuning of opto-mechanical performance of polymers based on selected chemical structures.
  • Create and maintain SOPs for meeting Customer Quality requirements with your team.
  • Write reports and intellectual property (IP) disclosures.

Required Skills and qualifications

  • Ph.D. in chemistry or materials science is required.
  • A minimum of fifteen years of experience with formulation development, experience in the chemical industry, polymers, liquid crystals and/or organic reagents
  • Comprehension of chemical formulations and material processing techniques.
  • Understanding of photo-induced organic reactions and dye chemistry.
  • Team player with “whatever it takes” approach. Attention to details, identity and troubleshoot technical challenges
  • Experience with handling and coating of glass/plastic substrates.
  • Proficient in working with reactive materials under inert atmosphere and/or controlled lightings.
  • Ability to learn and apply new scientific principles to the execution of daily responsibilities
  • Proven experience of commercialization and manufacturing of new materials for consumer applications
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
