As part of a small business the Engineering Technician II will assist in the design, development, assembly, testing, and low-rate production of novel electronic and mechanical designs for a variety of military and commercial products, including spaceflight hardware, in an agile, fast-paced small business environment. Position may involve infrequent travel to local and remote test and manufacturing locations in the United States.
DAS is a small business that requires a dynamic individual able to focus on multiple facets of high technology component assembly, test and evaluation, and production. Individuals should be able to adapt to a variety of roles from conceptual design, engineering for manufacturing, prototyping through production, and be comfortable with both electrical and mechanical systems. Representative projects and key activities and responsibilities are identified below.
Low-rate production and assembly of proprietary Software Defined Radio systems for space flight applications.
Design, development, testing, and low-rate production of a military-ruggedized mass spectrometer system for rapid field analysis of solid, liquid, and vapor samples in a chemical warfare environment.
Development of a novel vapor sampling system for collection of ambient air samples in a chemical warfare or hazardous gas environment.
Integration of miniature sensors, mesh-radio systems, and sensor data protocol handlers on unmanned platforms.
Low-rate production and testing of spaceflight-ready, satellite-based controllers for contamination monitors flown on boosters and payloads.
Design, development, testing, and production of novel Aerosol Test Chamber controls and user interfaces.
Work with engineers in the development of electrical and mechanical designs for commercial and military hardware using a variety of manufacturing approaches (SolidWorks, Schematic entry, simulation, PCB floor planning and quick turn PCB fabrication).
Fabrication of high-reliability cabling for prototypes and low rate production of novel commercial and military hardware
Assembly of prototypes and low rate production of novel commercial, military, and spaceflight hardware components, to include J-STD-001 soldering and work on ESD-sensitive components.
Perform parts sourcing and analysis to ensure reliable performance in operational environments including compliance with radiation, thermal, and operational constraints.
Assist in the development of design documentation including manufacturing drawings, in addition to assembly, test and evaluation protocols.
Maintain design documentation including alternative designs, decision support tools and baseline performance tracking data.
Mobile device programming for displaying data from the lab workstation using messaging or IoT websites.
Understand and implement basic laboratory safety procedures (eye and hearing protection). Safely use basic tools (soldering irons, band saw, Dremel tools) to modify parts to allow assembly of early prototypes. Safely use resins and epoxy materials to assemble integrated prototypes,
Provide direct support to, engineers, production staff, or sub-contractors.
Conduct high-reliability soldering skill and experience (J-STD-100 CIS with Space certification desired)
Read and interpret mechanical and electronic schematics, diagrams, and design files to conduct fabrication and assembly activities
work independently and on a team to inform management of critical timelines, safety issues and other programmatic relevant information.
Manage time effectively to complete assignments within time and budget constraints.
Perform administrative and/or technical reviews of reports and proposals
2-10 years relevant experience in commercial or government engineering activities.
Demonstrated proficiency and experience with the fabrication and assembly of miniature and small-scale hardware components, including ESD-sensitive electronics
Demonstrated expertise conducting high-reliability soldering
Demonstrated proficiency working with Computer Aided Engineering tools.
Demonstrated understanding of manufacturing SOP development and execution.
Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD security clearance at the secret level.
IPC Soldering Certification(s)
5-15 years experience building electronic cabling and harnesses
5-10 years commercial experience in the fabrication and assembly of miniature and small-scale hardware components, including ESD-sensitive electronics
2-10 years experience supporting government programs, including prototyping, system testing, and operational support activities
