We’re seeking a DBA with experience building large-scale analytical systems in Vertica or other columnar, MPP databases. You will help implement our next generation analytics platform by designing and tuning of our Vertica data warehouse while working closely with our engineering team to improve performance, monitor operations, and make our analytics sing.
JOB ROLES and RESPONSIBILITIES
Administer, maintain, and monitor production and development database clusters
Deploy, upgrade and configure new database clusters on AWS
Coordinate database migrations with developers and other stakeholders
Proactively respond to issues on production machines -- you will be responsible for ensuring database availability 24/7
Identify opportunities to optimize performance, maximize concurrency, and minimize system load
Assist with schema design and development of ETL processes
Expert in SQL, especially VSQL or Postgres, including analytical functions
Expert in administering Vertica or similar column-oriented database (Netezza, Greenplum, Aster, etc)
Strong experienced with schema design for big data warehousing applications
Strong experienced with database partitioning, projections/indexes and segmentation of data
Documentation of processes and procedures
Database troubleshooting and disaster recovery
Strong desire to learn and critically evaluate new technologies
Heavy Linux background
Fluent in programming languages such as Java, C++, C, or scripting languages like Perl, Python, shell
