Supplier D&Q Engineering Manager - Procurement

The overall objective for the Supplier D&Q Engineering Mgr. - Procurement is to provide strategic & technical direction for the procurement organization in developing, executing and managing the supplier technical development process and activities for new product launch, supplier performance and capital projects in support of procurement’s initiative to deliver best total cost of ownership value and to ensure continuity of supply through a strategic supplier base which meets the business requirements in service, quality, and innovation. The Supplier D&Q Engineering Mgr. is responsible for managing, developing and reporting on the quality system and processes within the supply base in support of ISO9001:2000 quality system requirements with special regard to the APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) and PPAP (Production Part Approval Process).

The position reports to the Director of Procurement and serves on the Supply Chain management leadership team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage suppliers through the AIAG APQP and PPAP processes.
  • Provide ongoing support to supplier’s quality/cost/delivery.
  • Conduct supplier process/product assessments.
  • Qualify new sources of supply, materials and components.
  • Initiate supplier process/product improvement/cost reductions.
  • Approve methods for product, process and system audits.
  • Approve methods for analysis of failed/returned materials and corrective actions.
  • Review yield, performance, and other statistical trend analysis and approve recommended product/process improvements.
  • Proactively lead problem solving activities for supplier issues.
  • Oversee/conduct internal audits of systems, processes, products.
  • Monitor the supplier part/service qualification and certification process, providing regular updates to the project teams.
  • Generate quality related procedures and specifications.
  • Assist in maintaining NCR/CAR databases.
  • Provide ongoing management support to supplier - tooling development & verification
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Experience and Education:

  • 5+ years successful procurement experience in a manufacturing organization
  • Proven track record of driving cost reduction through procurement of materials and collaboration with supplier
  • Experience in developing a world-class purchasing organization
  • Practical knowledge of leading edge purchasing and supply chain strategies
  • Minimum 4 year undergraduate degree. MBA preferred, but not required
  • Strong negotiation and analytical skills
  • Experience in lean initiatives including sales and operations planning (S&OP), product rationalization, value stream mapping, voice of the customer (VOC), and quality function deployment (QFD)
