Community HousingWorks (CHW) is seeking a successful fundraiser and strategic leader to be its next Director of Advancement, in San Diego.
The right person will feel at home growing and changing along with CHW – an entrepreneurial affordable housing and services nonprofit that every year grows our apartments, our residents served and our services.
You’re excited to lead a capable team of three fundraising staff and a communications staffer, on track to deliver on a budgeted $1.7M fundraising and communications plan in calendar 2017.
You are stimulated by communicating big ideas – so building out the multiyear fundraising plan and spearheading the 2018 brand focusing initiative sounds like fun.
You love telling the story to inspire support from old and new major donors. You’re ready to creatively build CHW’s major donor program, without gala awards or silent auction baskets.
You talk to wealthy people and poor people comfortably, across many cultures. You effectively interact with a variety of audiences, both large and small, including media, civic, community, faith-based, academic, philanthropic, corporate and government officials. You collaborate inside and outside and are able to convey complex ideas simply and succinctly.
You like that your fundraising revenue is matched by stable revenue from our residents and CHW’s nonprofit social enterprises.
You relish a workplace low on personal politics and hierarchy and high on mission, innovation, integrity and excellence.
Community HousingWorks (CHW/chworks.org) is counted among the top 50 affordable housing developers in the nation, with 3,000 affordable apartments statewide serving low income working families, seniors, and homeless and disabled residents. Many CHW employees say, "It’s the best place I've ever worked". Your work will grow our compassionate community of support, so that CHW onsite programs can provide even more residents with powerful tools for next gen success, financial wellbeing, and health and independence. It all starts with a home.
Are a successful fundraising professional with 5+ years successful fundraising experience, including major donors at $10,000+
Have experience in innovating, planning, leading, and managing nonprofit resource development projects, including coordinating across teams, and developing tools to assist in fundraising success and monitor fundraising progress

Have proven flexibility, performance as a team player, and a sense of humor
…then you might be the person Community HousingWorks is looking for!
