The After School Program Group Leader’s primary role is to assist with the daily operation of the on-site Study Star after school program. The After School Program Group Leader works independently and with the Community Building Coordinator team and is responsible for the supervision of activities for the school aged children enrolled in the program. Primary role is to ensure the implementation of program curriculum takes place, provides general supervision of children, provides customer service, tracks attendance, assists in promoting and marketing of programs in the following strategic areas: Next Generation Success, Health & Wellness, Financial Security, and Family Stability. The Group Leader will also assist in reaching all program goals and objectives set for the year.
Core duties and responsibilities include the following:
- Implementation of Program - provide direct service of Study Star after school program including but not limited to: planning, preparation, facilitation of all program activities such as Homework tutoring, iReady, Enrichment/community building activities, etc.
- Supervision of participants – establish and maintain a fun, safe, and positive environment conducive to youth development and restorative practices. Group Leader will be responsible for the supervision of all youth and should therefore have knowledge of classroom management best practices; all youth will be checked in and out according to procedure; set fair and reasonable rules; recognize member participation and achievement.
- Membership Tracking – ensure all participants complete all program registration forms, generate attendance, iReady, and other programmatic reports as instructed
- Customer Service – establish a welcoming environment where all residents feel respected and safe. Provide responsive and helpful assistance to Study Star families and visitors, must be able to effectively communicate with children, parents, visitors, and other team members.
- Promote /Market – prominently display program information throughout the site, ensure all program and organizational literature is distributed throughout the community. Will be expected to foster partnerships with the community members.
- Facility Maintenance – overall appearance of the Community Center, conducts daily housekeeping duties and safety checks, report damages or repairs needed, post evacuation and emergency procedures, etc.
- Administrative Duties – completes all administrative tasks as they relate to the Study Star program; attendance, iReady testing and reporting, program supply orders, participant behavior and academic reporting, communication with families.
- Collaborative Work Space – works independently and in a team with various CHW departments, ConAm staff, as well as volunteers, partners, and funders.
- Schedule – must be able to work 5 days (Monday-Friday) per week in the afternoons between the hours of 3 pm to 7 pm while program is taking place at the community.
- Policies and Procedures- Supervises and consistently adheres to the policies and procedures related to the proper use of equipment, technology, and room usage by residents and volunteers in the Community Center.

- Ability to communicate fluently in Spanish/English required.
- Effective communication between residents, volunteers, property management, CHW inter-departments, partners, and funders.
- Able to read and write reports/correspondence, to interpret technical procedures or operational manuals.
- Work with residents to facilitate, engage, and recruit them to the on-site programs in the areas of Next Generation Success, Financial Security, and Family Stability.
- Able to define problems, establish facts and draw conclusions. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Expected to manage multiple tasks and to develop solutions to problems with limited supervision. Work requires the ability to prioritize work tasks and assignments
- Understanding or interest in issues of low-income families from psycho-social and economic perspectives such as refugee resettlement, immigration, domestic violence, and substance abuse issues, parenting related matters, and teen behavior challenges.
- Understanding of Fair Housing and tenant/landlord laws, rules, and regulations a plus.
- Moderate to Expert experience with computers, Email, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher), and database systems.
- Evidence of ability to work legally in the United States.
Education & Experience:
- AA in Education, Liberal Arts, Child Development, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Human Relations requested, or 2 or more years of experience in related fields.
- Must have experience working with children and adults in similar setting.
- Must be fluent in both Spanish and English.
