The Installation Technician - Land Mobile Radio (LMR) is responsible for supporting the installation and servicing of various Land Mobile Radio Equipment both (mobile radios, and infrastructure), leading small to mid-size service-related projects, mentoring and providing guidance to junior technicians, and other tasks supporting the sales and servicing of other related products.

Responsibilities:

  • Support a company culture of peer accountability.
  • Operate as Lead Installation Technician on small installation projects.
  • Perform the removal and installation of mobile and fixed communications equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair existing equipment installations as required.
  • Perform removal and installation of other types of 12-volt electronic equipment such as Emergency Lights and Controllers, Sirens, Mobile Computer and Docking stations, Radio Chargers, Mobile Video recording equipment, GPS equipment, equipment consoles, safety cages, etc.
  • Complete pre and post-installation checklists to document and ensure the operation of the vehicle's existing accessories, lights, and other components.
  • Document the physical condition of the vehicle before and after work is completed.
  • Document customer information, details of work performed, hours worked, parts used, specific instruction from the customer, etc.
  • Mentor less experienced Installation Technicians.
  • Present basic technical and end-user training.
  • Responsible for accurate reporting in time tracking systems each week before the day/time determined by the manager.
  • Responsible for proper maintenance of all tools, test equipment, company-owned computer equipment, company-owned cellular telephones, and company vehicles assigned.
  • Responsible for calibration of assigned test equipment and keeping the test equipment database up to date.
  • Obtain security clearances and badges as required.
  • Working overtime, weekends, holidays, and varying schedules may sometimes be required.
  • Diligent attention to safety.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have a clean driving record
  • An associate degree, technical school certification, or military training preferred
  • Four years related technical work experience
  • MCEI Certification within 12 months of hire, preferred
  • Trained and experienced in the configuration, testing, and optimization of current Motorola two-way radio subscriber equipment
  • Skilled in the use of product-specific tools and software to perform basic configuration and testing, both pre-and post-installation, as needed
  • Trained in and understands Basic Electronics/Electrical Theory and Basic Networking/IT
  • Must have a good understanding of vehicle assembly, as well as vehicle electrical and mechanical systems
  • General knowledge of basic electronic test equipment such as DVMs, wattmeters (power meters), communications systems analyzers, etc.
  • Self-motivated and able to quickly learn new system types and technologies as they are introduced
  • Ability to work as a team member to achieve a shared goal or outcome
  • Good verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner
