This is a newly created full-time position. Reporting to the Director of Development. The Development Manager will support essential fundraising efforts including donor database activities, annual appeals, events, donor and funder stewardship, grant assistance, and prospect research. This job requires database (Donorperfect or another database) management.

The successful candidate should enjoy data management, reporting, and analysis, and be extremely detail-oriented and organized. They will be comfortable working independently and as part of a team to build a sustainable and diverse donor base of individuals and institutions who are engaged and invested in the mission of the Coalition for the Homeless.

ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND:

Established in 1979, Coalition for the Homeless is a nonprofit organization. Our mission is to transition homeless and at-risk individuals and families to self-sufficiency through housing programs and supportive services. We operate six transitional (temporary) housing programs in Washington, DC, and two permanent housing sites (18 units) for the formerly homeless and low-income households. We address the root causes of homelessness through a range of supportive services. Services include temporary housing, food, case management, substance abuse counseling, and employment and housing placement assistance.

POSITION SUMMARY:

This is a newly created full-time position with occasional evenings/weekends. Reporting to the Director of Development, the Development Manager will support essential fundraising efforts including donor database activities, annual appeals, events, donor and funder stewardship, grant assistance, and prospect research. QUALIFICATIONS

▪ Bachelor's degree in a related field

▪ A minimum of 5 years experience in database management, data entry, and administrative position preferably in a non-profit.

▪ Strong interpersonal communication skills

▪ Strong critical thinking skills

▪ High degree of confidentiality, diplomacy, discretion, and tact.

▪ Must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to anticipate department needs

▪ The ability to work both independently and as part of a team

▪ Excellent knowledge of fundraising practices

▪ Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication.

▪ Ability to manage time efficiently, prioritize work, and handle multiple projects simultaneously

JOB DUTIES

DonorPerfect Online Database Management – A cloud database

▪ Proficient in Donorperfect including importing and exporting using Excel. As part of the interview process, you will be required to demonstrate your knowledge of the DonorPerfect fundraising database. The results will be factored into candidate selection.

▪ Oversees the processes, input, accuracy, and management of all database information, including, but not limited to, creating and updating constituent records, donor and grant gift entry, acknowledgments, importing data, pulling mailing lists, general data entry, and overall database management.

▪ Process gifts and prepare acknowledgment letters

▪ Creates and administers regular fundraising reports queries, and exports as needed

▪ Provide scheduled and impromptu reports for the development department, board, and development committee meetings.

▪ Coordinate with Finance department to reconcile DonorPerfect Online donations on a monthly basis

▪ Create processes to consistently identify new prospects at all giving levels

▪ Familiarity with computer operating systems and database technology

▪ Maintain the health of DonorPerfect by regularly reviewing the use of fields, data entry, and duplicate record reports.

▪ manage donations, contacts, receipting, reporting, email, and fundraising initiatives from a single system.

▪ Work with Development Director to maintain and improve email automation

Grant Wring and Reporting

▪ Assist with completing grant proposals and reporting requirements

▪ Collect relevant information and data to support the grant application process

▪ Create documents and materials as needed to support grant requests and site visits.

Annual Giving, Special Event, and Fundraising Campaigns

▪ Plan, coordinate and assist with special events, donor cultivation events, and fundraising campaigns

▪ Work with Development Director to keep the development fundraising calendar updated

▪ Conduct preliminary research on prospective corporate, foundation, and individual donors.

▪ Provides excellent customer service to all funders, prospective donors, and volunteers.

General

▪ Prepare monthly progress reports regarding fundraising for Development Director

▪ Assist with developing a new gift recognition program

▪ Assist with managing and tracking Corporate and business workplace giving

▪ Assist with the mailing of year-end appeal letters.

▪ Provide support for mailings and communications, including drafting correspondence and preparing mail merges

▪ Assist in updating and maintaining the agency’s website.

▪ Effective email management to improve communications and save time on daily tasks

▪ Perform other duties as assigned by the Development Director

TECHNOLOGY KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

▪ Knowledge of, and ability to use a computer and other technical resources to effectively accomplish work.

▪ Experience with WordPress is a plus.

▪ Experience with the backend of website design and maintenance for WordPress is a plus

▪ A functional understanding of The Hypertext Markup Language, or HTML

▪ Microsoft Office Suites
