Compensation: $140-150,000 base salary (target), 10% performance bonus potential

Travel: Occasional

Reports to: Director, Strategic Sourcing & Vendor Management

Position Summary

Our client, a F500 financial services company, is seeking a Team Leader, Strategic Sourcing. This position has overall responsibility for the enterprise-wide management of all Strategic Sourcing activities with primary focus on Corporate Services (especially facilities). Using a consultative model, the primary focus will be to provide the necessary direction and support to lead and coordinate strategic sourcing activities across all business units within the company and its subsidiaries. To carry out this mission, the Team Leader, Strategic Sourcing, will need to build strong partnerships with Business Unit Officers, the business unit CFOs, and other key business stakeholders, and must be skilled in selling the Strategic Sourcing concept.

Within this role, the Team Leader, Strategic Sourcing, will have responsibility for:
  • Building and managing a best-in-class Strategic Sourcing Team for Corporate Services spend, addressing enterprise-wide spend in all subcategories, and executing related special projects
  • Individually leading key strategic sourcing projects using established sourcing processes and project management tools
  • Effectively building strong working relationships with a broad range of internal clients to proactively support and promote business objectives
  • Build partnerships with key business units and successfully embed a formal, fact-based Strategic Sourcing process
  • Recommend alternatives to continuously gain customer buy-in and endorsement
  • Build strong relationships with the leaders of all Source-to-Pay divisions, including other Team Leaders
  • Develop Strategic Sourcing strategy and goals to be aligned with overall Source-to-Pay and company objectives
  • Demonstrate strong facilitation, leadership and interpersonal abilities when working with varying staff levels
  • Monitor and direct day-to-day execution of projects owned by his/her team members
  • Support the development of a culture that attracts, rewards and promotes high quality deliverables and excellent customer service
  • Directly own and manage major projects across all strategic sourcing phases (pre-Sourcing, Sourcing, and post Sourcing), using varying project management tools
  • Develop and communicate work plans and ensure that issues are well addressed and consensus is established
  • Apply market research and requirements-gathering techniques to optimize sourcing approach, foster competition and support negotiated outcomes
  • Build and maintain high quality deliverables (e.g. RFx, Cost Analysis, Evaluation Tools, Presentations, Negotiation Guides and Contractual Documents)
  • Support teams in resolving interdependency issues
  • Work closely with Management to identify performance issues and continuously implement programs to upgrade technical, business and interpersonal skills
  • Recommend and coordinate effective risk management and control processes throughout the organization as it relates to Strategic Sourcing and Corporate Procurement Policy
  • Keep Source-to-Pay management informed of all work in progress and major issues
  • Monitor performance against pre-established department objectives
  • At least 7 years of strategic sourcing or equivalent experience, ideally with at least 3 years of sourcing Facilities/Corporate Services categories (Construction Project Managers, Architects, Engineers, Electricians, Janitorial Services, Food Services, Carpet, Office Furniture)
  • At least 3 years of team leadership experience in Strategic Sourcing and project/process management, preferably in the Financial Services industry
  • Experience with direct categories in financial services industry is a plus (Underwriting or Insurance-related Services, Claims Management, Marketing, Lockbox, etc.)
  • Strong project management skills and familiarity with varying project management tools
  • Experience in cross-functional team leadership, negotiations strategy, and oversight of Sourcing programs for a wide variety of products and services
  • Experience utilizing best practices to lead and manage major corporate cost reduction initiatives and process improvement programs
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Highly persuasive and capable of building consensus
  • Possess strong knowledge of customer satisfaction development and measurement approaches
  • Demonstrate strong ability to operate effectively in an unstructured environment, and to foster teamwork and organizational development
  • BA/BS in Business Administration, Operations Management, Project Management or other related discipline is a plus
  • Project Management certification (PMP) preferred
  • Masters of Business Administration, or relevant proven experience in a Procurement Leadership position, strongly preferred
