California-Nevada Section, AWWA—a nonprofit association dedicated to safe water, public health and environment since 1920—is hiring a Communications Specialist to be a part of a fast-paced and collaborative team. Reporting to the Director of Events and Marketing, responsibilities include development of key messages, implementation of outreach programs and campaigns, website content, member newsletters and coordination of the Section’s social media engagement programs. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Content development: Write and produce email broadcasts, monthly newsletters and other content by gathering information on pressing water issues, interviewing subject matter experts, to develop relevant content for distribution to our members and customers.
Website administration: Accountable for updating and maintaining the Section’s website. Use web content management systems to update website content and analyze website usage statistics.
Social media coordination: Responsible for the Section’s social media efforts across Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube to deliver key brand messaging and content and to engage with our members and customers.
Outreach support for Section programs: Assist in the development of marketing materials, advertisements and promotional campaigns for Section programs. Coordinate customer surveys to determine message strategies and target optimal audiences.
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education and/or Experience
A combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Digital Marketing or related field and 3 years of experience in marketing/public relations/outreach communication programs is required. Experience working with printers, advertisers and graphic editing programs; working knowledge of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube; experience managing associated social media business accounts, advertising programs; familiarity with standard marketing/communications concepts and practices and ability to analyze marketing analytic research trends and results is required. Excellent writing skills, both creative and business writing. Excellent project management and organization skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Outlook Personal computer; Windows 10, MS Office programs (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook) and Adobe Creative Suite
