Status: part-time; contracted projects
Supervisor: Tami Shaw, Curriculum Coordinator
Pay: $1000 per unit; multiple units available
Blueprint Education is re-writing all four years of high school English to meet the rigor and depth of the Common Core standards. Blueprint’s courses are taken independently by self-paced students; therefore, the learning content must be clear, rigorous, and supportive. Unit writers will use templates, follow specific expectations, and meet deadlines.
Based on a given theme and writing style, writers will select an anchor text (book) and supporting texts (articles, poems, media, short stories, or excerpts) for their unit. They will develop the lesson content, assignments, answer keys, and assessments for a unit. As they write, they will align their assignments and assessments to the Common Core Standards. The writer will also provide scaffolding materials and Honors components for the unit.
Each unit equates to one quarter credit. Each unit is comprised of 7 or 8 “lessons,” and an exam. A lesson contains 4-8 hours of learning time (similar to a week in a traditional school, where class meets for one hour daily, plus homework).
The position will be hired for a single project on a contracted basis, work virtually, and submit the content via email.
All units must be completed by May 15, 2014 (earlier deadlines will be set).
Knowledge and Skills
NOTE: The ideal unit writer desires a flexible schedule but is able to commit significant time to developing the units quickly.
