IT Security Specialist (TS clearance required)
Applies current computer science technologies to the design, development, evaluation, and integration of computer systems and networks to maintain system security. Works with commercial computer product vendors in the design and evaluation of state-of-the-art secure operating systems, networks, and database products. Provides security engineering and integration services to internal customers. Involved in a wide range of security issues including architectures, electronic data traffic, network access. Uses encryption technology, penetration and vulnerability analysis of various security technologies, and information technology security research. May prepare security reports to regulatory agencies such as Departments of Defense or Energy.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 5 years of professional experience; or 3 years of professional experience with a related Master’s degree. Considered career or journey level.
Designs, tests, and implements state-of-the-art secure operating systems, networks, and database products. Conducts risk assessment and provides recommendations for application design. Involved in a wide range of security issues including architectures, firewalls, electronic data traffic, and network access. Uses encryption technology, penetration and vulnerability analysis of various security technologies, and information technology security research. Duties will include performing Vulnerability scan using Encase Mandiant and McAfee Vulnerability Manager Vulnerability scanner, DISA Gold Disk, Bigfix, and other vulnerability detection scanners as appropriate. Including but not limited to identifying: operating environment and potential threats; system security architecture; analysis of new software/hardware requirements; establishing the Certification and accreditation boundaries; analyzing the Security Controls and the adherence to DHS Security Policy 4300A, documenting formal agreements and other pertinent information for all requirements necessary for accreditation.
