Experienced Auditor Accountant – Job Description
Summary of Responsibilities Is given a wide variety of diversified accounting and tax assignments under the supervision of different professionals. Performance is judged based on the quality of work, application of accounting knowledge, and ability to meet time constraints.
Soft Skills • Excels at soft skills associated with Staff Accountant Job Description. • Limited to no review points on compliance work and planning. • Ability to train, mentor, and supervise new staff. • Takes the lead role in project management of routine client compliance work – defined for financial statements and tax engagements below. • Demonstrates time management skills by meeting client deadlines, responsiveness to client and internal requests, participation in firm leadership, balance at home, etc. • Ability to effectively communicate advisory skills to both the client and the internal project team.
Advisory Skills • Ability to perform financial analysis of client financial statements to identify trends / warning signs / opportunities for improvement. • Ability to advise on accounting best practices (e.g. A/R, A/P, financial close, general controller / CFO duties). • Ability to prepare supporting work products associated with financial performance improvement (e.g. cash flow projection, financial statement projections, product pricing analysis, expense analysis). • Ability to advise on cost accounting practices (e.g. admin allocation, fixed overhead charges) • Familiar with the Business Life Cycle and the associated steps / characteristics of the Life Cycle. • Familiar with elements that create increased business value.
For financial statement engagements • Takes the lead role in compliance elements of engagement (e.g. planning meetings, field work, monitoring delivery dates, ensuring the upper level reviews are timely). • Demonstrates mastery of flow of financial statements, revenue conversion cycle, cash conversion cycle, inventory cycle, and construction specific schedules (e.g. work in process). • Ability to identify and resolve issues that inhibit engagement completion (e.g. alternative testing of A/R if confirmations are not received; ability to test inventory values if counts are not reliable or timely).
Education, Experience, and Skills Required • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or master’s degree in accounting. • 2 to 6 years of experience in public accounting. • Minimum of 40 hours of continuing professional education is required each year. • Well-rounded knowledge of accounting principles and personal income taxes. • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in English. • Either holds a current and valid CPA license, or is working toward obtaining the license by taking and passing the applicable state CPA exam.
