Embedded Systems Engineer

Job Description

Behlman Electronics, Inc in Hauppauge, Long Island this position primarily involving design and implementation of embedded systems hardware to used in AC-DC and DC-DC power supplies intended for military and industrial commercial applications. The position involves writing firmware for mixed-signal embedded systems and communications interfaces in Windows/RTOS environments, design of test software and test suite packages including selection of accompanying commercially available test equipment and design of non-standard test equipment, and sustaining engineering support for existing embedded design portfolios incorporating a broad mix of software and communciation protocols, the latter including RS 232, IEEE-488-2, USB, ethernet and CAN. The candidate will use computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform assignments, applying principles and techniques of electrical engineering to accomplish goals. Participation in preparation of specifications, development of test plans and conduct of design verification testing are included, as is preparation and maintain design and test documentation.

Requirements

The successful candidate must be well organized, open-minded, decisive and flexible, able to communicate well with others, work cooperatively in a team environment, and lead others both by direction and by example. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required; good computer skills are necessary, as is the ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities.

Candidates must havea minimum of 2 – 4 years previous experience at an electronics manufacturer (preferrably in a design role) and exhibit a deep understanding of embedded firmware design, both hardware and firmware. The Familiarity/expereince with design documentation software including schematic capture and PWB/CCA design (Altium preferred) is required. An understanding of control theory is mandatory, as is knowledge of the principles of signal processing techniques. Experience with C and C++ are mandatory; Visual Basic, assembler and PLM are desirable. Practical knowledge of and experience with ethernet, USB and CAN bus communications are required, with RS 232, IEEE488-2 highly desirable.
