The Social Media Manager is a critical member of a small, but growing public relations team at BD. He/she will have a passion for connecting BD’s technologies, solutions and good works to customers, communities, and current and future employees. The social media manager is responsible for developing a company-wide social media strategy and managing BD’s corporate social media channels. He/she will identify new ways to increase engagement through interesting content, cultivate new audiences and optimize materials that can be leveraged across multiple social channels. He/she is responsible for joining relevant conversations on behalf of the company, growing our digital reputation in key growth areas and being a steward of the company’s online reputation. The social media manager will be responsible for administering the company’s corporate social media campaigns while also serving as a strategic partner across BD’s multiple business units to help identify and execute strategic social media initiatives.

This role will report to the Senior Director of Public Relations to help support key corporate priorities and partner with senior leaders to develop and execute external communication strategies and plans that complement business objectives; improve customer, patient and consumer awareness and understanding of BD and support the company’s relationships with online influencers.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop the corporate social media strategy for BD to increase awareness and engagement across BD corporate social media properties.
  • Manage BD’s corporate social media accounts, and advise businesses on how to engage their audiences through social media. Maintain policies and procedures for social media material development and build new processes to enhance content that reflect our corporate objectives.
  • Continuously monitor BD-owned channels for conversations and mentions that directly impact the company, escalating as needed.
  • Evaluate social media tools and manage vendor relationships.
  • Oversee BD’s social media committee that evaluates requests for separate, branded social channels.
  • Act as the resident social media expert at BD to advise on employee use of social media (e.g. employee training, recognition and rewards for participation and quarterly updates).
  • Identify and build positive relationships with online influencers, bloggers and key stakeholders through proactive social media campaigns.
  • Prepare internal stakeholders with social media training when necessary and identify opportunities for executive social media engagement.
  • Implement a content editorial calendar to manage content and plan specific, timely marketing campaigns.
  • Help shape the company tone and voice and implement consistency across all social properties.
  • Continuously improve by capturing and analyzing the appropriate social data/metrics, insights and best practices, and then acting on the information.
  • Collaborate with other departments (Regulatory, Legal, Quality, etc.) to develop protocols and coordinate actions.
  • Increase engagement through promoted content and social advertising.

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree and 6-8 years in communications, journalism, public relations or marketing.
  • 3+ years proven working experience in social media marketing or as a digital media specialist, in a regulated industry, and/or health care required.
  • Fundamental understanding of the FDA guidance for health care companies use of social media and how to navigate within the guidance.
  • Excellent consulting, writing, editing (photo/video/text), presentation and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to think independently and make sound decisions and recommendations regarding communications programs/issues/crisis communications.
  • Demonstrate ability to effectively handle multiple activities and respond to changing priorities with good judgment.
  • Strong attention to detail and proven problem solver.
  • Proven track record with developing benchmark metrics to measure the results of social media programs and strategic objectives to surpass past results.
  • Time management skills and proven track record of handling multiple deadlines.
  • Experience in drafting engaging content, managing and convening editorial calendars and developing communications strategies for corporate-owned social media properties.
  • Prolific in the following software and platforms: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher), Adobe, Media Monitoring Services, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, SnapChat, Social Studio, Instagram, Radian6 and Google+.
