While working with a highly functioning leadership team, the Machine Shop Foreman/Programmer oversees the production and equipment of B&J's Machine Shop. B&J, Inc. is Northern Nevada's leading manufacturing company who works with the area's largest businesses such as Tesla and Panasonic. The Machine Shop Supervisor will be asked to maximize the operations of the machine shop and will be tasked with providing excellent leadership for our machine shop staff. Some of the responsibilities of this position include:

CNC Programmer

  • Analyze CAD Models, drawings and/or written or verbal instructions to determine
  • Proper mathematical calculations
  • Sequence of machine operations
  • Tool selection
  • Machine speed
  • Program equipment in the language of the machine’s controller and store it
  • Store and organize programs in a manner that facilitates easy retrieval

Machine Shop Estimator

  • Communicate effectively and professionally with external and internal customers and suppliers
  • Review blueprints or conceptual drawing to determine operations, tools, materials and outside processes required for the job
  • Determine cost of manufacturing the job by estimating labor times and calculating material usage


  • Participate in company sales and marketing effort as needed
  • Track and chart data as needed

Some of the essential requirements of this position include:

  • Minimum two years CNC Mill programming using Mastercam
  • Minimum one year estimating experience in a production machine shop environment or other acceptable combination of experience
  • Knowledge of Mazak, horizontal and vertical machinery
  • Strong math skills: ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals; algebra, geometry and trigonometry; conversions for material requirements, dollars & time
  • Strong ability to read drawings
  • Strong creative skills – ability to see beyond the immediate application of a program or assignme
  • Strong knowledge of CNC machining operations
  • Computer literate; ability to use spreadsheet program and learn/operate internal estimating package

Some beneficial skills include:

  • High school graduate plus relevant vocational training (e.g. mathematics, blueprint reading, computer courses, machining, drafting). Additional classes in math, statistics, accounting, finance, business or economics preferred
  • Mazatrol and Fadal programming experience
  • Computer skilled in the use of CAD systems
  • Experience in CNC Mill machine operation
