The American Physical Society (APS—www.aps.org), the premier association for physicists, seeks a Web Content Coordinator to join the IT department at the APS Headquarters in College Park, MD (near DC Metro Green Line). The Coordinator will work with stakeholders to develop new content and keep existing content fresh, relevant and in line with communication goals. This individual should be a creative thinker who can build relationships across departments to meet the needs for content updates and enhancements. The Coordinator uses the content management system (CMS) to produce user-focused content and maintain organizational brand consistency. An interest in physics or science is a plus.

Responsibilities

· Create, update, and manage content for aps.org and other APS domains while ensuring the content is compelling and consistent
· Ensure that website content meets the needs of the target audience and is in line with best practices while enforcing consistent style, format, and quality
· Perform gap analysis and work with stakeholders to follow through with closing content gaps by managing the delivery of assets such as copy, graphics, navigation, and interactive elements
· Assist with maintenance of editorial calendars to ensure timely updates
· Train and support content contributors, including CMS training, approval of content changes, and content editing
· Maintain documentation of web content procedures

Qualifications:
· Expert knowledge of HTML and CSS
· Experience with web content creation, content strategy, information architecture and SEO techniques
· Working knowledge of Google Analytics
· Ability to coach staff in “writing for the web” techniques
· Strong marketing and written/verbal communication skills
· Excellent interpersonal and negotiating skills
· Experience with Photoshop, Acrobat, and Dreamweaver preferred
· Highly organized and detail-oriented with good project management capabilities

Education: Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Communications, English, Marketing, or related field

Experience:
· 2-4 years of professional web content experience including editing and managing web content
· Experience using a content management system, preferably CommonSpot
· Functional understanding of website layout and web graphics
· Experience working with associations.
