Nonprofit organization is seeking a VP of Finance who provides leadership and manages the daily operations of both the Business and Accounting Department providing relevant, timely and accurate information to internal and external constituents in accordance with GAAP and financial reporting for not-for-profit entities. Relies on experience, technical training, and independent judgement to perform specialized supervisory and corporate accounting work.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Leads Finance committee meetings.
  • Provides business office strategies needed to best serve the organization.
  • Responsible for ensuring a high functioning business team.
  • Follows policies and procedures, exercising discretion, and independent judgement as necessary to resolve any issues that may arise.
  • Coordinates and analyzes ad hoc reporting as requested and needed to inform leaders and operations of data and statistics.
  • Oversees financial accounting for the organization per accounting standards and organization policies and procedures, exercising independent judgement to do more than merely apply techniques and procedures.
  • Works in collaboration with HR department on cross functions regarding payrolls etc.
  • Leads insurance renewal annually.
  • Manages financial accounting for the association per accounting standards and organization policies and procedures, applying specialized independent judgement as necessary to analyze and apply standards.
  • Exercises discretion and independent judgement to oversee development of budget tools and lead coordination of the budget process annually.
  • Ensures staff are held accountable for their jobs.
  • Ensures compliance in reporting and regulatory agencies i.e. IRS, Attorney General, Audit preparation, exercising independent judgement
  • Reviews and analyzes financial reports for trends and areas of improvement monthly.
  • Develops and monitors Key Performance Indicators.
  • Ensures financial reports including financial narrative and leading discussions regarding financial matters are created monthly for accurate Board of Director and Finance committee meetings exercising discretion and independent judgement as necessary to resolve any issues that may arise.
  • Meets with senior leadership to review financial results and make recommendations for process improvement and expense control.
  • Monitors grant administration and timely payments.
  • Manage fixed assets, capital expenditures and depreciation accurately and timely.
  • Follows and enforces safety standards and other policies and procedures.
  • Develops and monitors appropriate internal controls.
  • Monitor and report on investments.
  • Provides strategic and financial vision to leadership for future growth including funding opportunities, alternatives, and solutions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

The following are the minimum qualifications which an individual needs in order to successfully perform the duties & responsibilities of this position. Please note that the minimum qualifications may vary based upon the department size and/or geographic location.
  • 4-year college degree in finance or accounting required. MBA preferred. Additional years of experience may offset a portion of the educational requirement.
  • 5+ years in supervisor and corporate accounting experience.
  • Proficiency in GAAP and financial reporting for not-for-profit entities.
