Senior Mechanical Engineer

Accel Robotics is currently looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our San Diego based team. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will work cross functionally, internally and externally, to provide mechanical engineering leadership and design skills to drive the development of our autonomous retail products, which includes tracking, product sensing, and IoT network technologies packaged in retail fixtures such as custom shelves, accessories, and cases. This role requires a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university and 7+ years of mechanical engineering design experience within a consumer electronics environment.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Lead and/or perform mechanical engineering design throughout the product lifecycle for autonomous retail products (custom shelving, shelf accessories, sensor packaging, trackers, etc.)
• Lead and/or perform mechanical engineering research for emergent autonomous retail solutions
• Verify, validate, and document design and research results against clear technical requirements and specifications
• Deliver results time and cost-effectively.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Demonstrated engineering design and leadership experience for high-volume manufactured consumer electronic products and/or assemblies (plastics and/or sheet metal.)
• Experience with leadership and collaboration for vendors and contract manufacturers
• Strong CAD skills:
  • Creation of complex 3D models.
  • In-depth knowledge of 2D engineering drawing standards and documentation
• Demonstrated experience with GD&T per ASME Y14.5M 1998 and tolerance analysis
• Demonstrated experience using PDM/PLM systems
• Demonstrated ability to perform engineering calculations and correlate with experimental data (e.g. thermal, stress, etc.)
• Demonstrated design of experiments experience
• Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills
• Able to travel up to 25% of the time to work with contract manufacturers, etc.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from a nationally accredited university
• 7+ years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer in high-volume consumer electronics product development
• Experience with ANSYS, SolidWorks, SolidWorks PDM, and FEA software desired
• Demonstrated knowledge of heat transfer and cooling of electrical components desired.
