For front-of-house staff in a restaurant, customer service skills are critical. Waiters must also be able to talk knowledgeably about the food and drinks served in the restaurant. Likewise, hosts and hostesses should be able to answer diners’ questions. All restaurant workers need to be able to handle busy situations and multitask. Kitchen staff members need strong food preparation skills gained either from experience or from going to culinary school. Managers and administrative staff must have management skills, customer service abilities, and be able to solve problems in hectic situations.
