Qualifications to get a surgery scheduler job include a high school degree or G.E.D. certificate as well as relevant experience in a medical administrative position. Experience working as a secretary or in another clerical position may also help you qualify, but you need strong communication and interpersonal skills to work with patients and surgeons, as well as typing skills, familiarity with computers, and an understanding of medical terminology and records. There are no licensing requirements for this job, but there is certification available to improve your job prospects through the Association of Administrative Professionals called the Certified Administrative Professional (CAP). To take this exam, you must have two to four years of administrative work experience.
