There are six types of pilot certifications. Sports pilots can only fly one passenger during the day and below 10,000 feet. Recreational pilots have fewer restrictions but still cannot fly more than 50 nautical miles or fly at night. Private Pilots have more training, can operate at night, and are allowed to fly into restricted airports. Commercial pilots can be paid to fly. Flight instructors are certified to teach others. The highest certification is an airline transport pilot; this certification is required for commercial airlines.
