The first step towards becoming a director of public safety is earning a bachelor’s degree in law enforcement, public policy, management, or a related field. Next, you need to gain experience in the public safety field by working for the city or county government, a university, or another related space. You may also gain experience in managing the safety of guests at a hotel or convention center. You must demonstrate skills in physical ability and community service issues. Other qualifications include the ability to interpret and enforce institutional policies. You should also have excellent oral and written communication skills.
