Job description

As a collaborative and innovative center of design excellence, SFCS is dedicated to defining the next generation of Living, Learning and Healing Environments. Our family-oriented culture aims to provide an exceptional employment experience through which we deliver extraordinary service. From our four regionally located offices in North Carolina, Virginia, Kentucky, and Pennsylvania, we provide specialization in the design of senior living, education, healthcare, and government facilities nationwide.
We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated registered Project Architect with a minimum of 10 years’ experience preferred. In this role, you will lead the development and technical execution of medium to large-scale projects, with a focus on senior living, education, healthcare, and government sectors. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong design and technical skills, leadership in project coordination, and a passion for crafting environments that enhance lives.
The position requires the candidate to perform all architectural and technical tasks associated with assigned projects from concept through construction. This is inclusive of, but not limited to, the following:
Key Responsibilities:
  • Design amp; Technical Leadership: Oversee the architectural design development process, from schematic design through construction documentation and administration. Translate conceptual design into coordinated, buildable solutions that support design intent and meet performance criteria.
  • Documentation amp; Detailing: Lead the creation and coordination of construction documents, specifications, and technical details. Ensure documentation complies with applicable codes, zoning regulations, ADA requirements, and internal QA standards.
  • Project Coordination: Collaborate closely with internal design teams and external consultants—including structural, MEP, civil, and specialty disciplines—to ensure integration of all project elements. Monitor progress to align with client goals and deadlines.
  • Construction Administration: Manage construction phase services including RFI responses, submittal reviews, site visits, and field reports. Advocate for design integrity throughout project execution.
  • Client amp; Team Engagement: Participate in client meetings, presentations, and project interviews. Communicate design ideas effectively and ensure client feedback is integrated throughout all phases.
  • Project Management Support: Support Project Managers in planning work effort, estimating time required for tasks, and staying within project scope and budget. Identify and communicate potential risks or deviations early in the process.
  • Software Proficiency: Demonstrate fluency in Revit, AutoCAD, and other essential tools including Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, Newforma, and Microsoft Office. Assist junior staff in the development and technical use of these platforms.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture from an accredited institution
  • Professional registration as a licensed Architect
  • Minimum 10+ years of professional architectural experience, ideally in senior living, healthcare, education, or government projects
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Suite, and Newforma
  • Strong knowledge of building codes, detailing, construction methods, and documentation standards
  • Excellent collaboration, organizational, and communication skills
  • Passion for high-quality, purpose-driven design and technical excellence
What We Offer:
  • Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k), and more
  • A collaborative work environment that values creativity, growth, and balance
  • Opportunities for professional development, licensure support, and career advancement
We offer a competitive salary and benefits package. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions), sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, disability, genetic information, protected veteran status, or any other status protected by applicable federal, state, or local law.
