Job description

The Hub Manager leads the team in establishing and maintaining perennial agroecological systems, supporting Canopy's mission to plant more trees on Midwestern farms as a natural climate solution. This role oversees field operations, crew management, and resource coordination while fostering a safe, efficient, and collaborative work environment. Daily work will take place across Central Illinois using company vehicles, with occasional travel required.
Farm Services Operations
  • Oversee hub field operations, including farm audits, pest and disease scouting, crop monitoring, and infrastructure management (irrigation, weather stations).
  • Lead Farm Technicians: hire, train, schedule, and delegate tasks to ensure safe, efficient operations.
  • Monitor employee workload and well-being to prevent burnout during peak seasons.
  • Track field activities, enforce DOT and safety regulations, oversee pesticide applications, and ensure quality control.
  • Assist with planting, management, and monitoring activities across farms as needed.
  • Scout potential establishment sites, troubleshoot equipment, and adjust operations based on seasonal and environmental conditions.

Non-Field Operations & Coordination
  • Plan, prioritize, and communicate tasks using ClickUp, whiteboards, and team check-ins.
  • Contribute to budgets, financial reports, AMP planning, and establishment profitability analyses.
  • Maintain organized hub and shop spaces, schedule equipment maintenance, and manage supply orders.
  • Document work, track hours, and provide regular updates to management on activities, progress, and seasonal feedback.
  • Represent Canopy externally to landowners, suppliers, volunteers, and at industry events.
  • Foster company culture, provide staff feedback, and support professional development.

Requirements
  • High school degree, or equivalent
  • Familiarity with perennial agriculture or habitat restoration
  • Previous field and crew management experience
  • Experience in farming, landscaping, forestry, or other field-based jobs
  • Ability to obtain a Pesticide Applicator license
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Ability to work outside, long hours, and in challenging conditions
  • Ability to travel as needed
  • Commitment to safety and willingness to participate in an open and collaborative environment
  • Ability to work independently with strong self-direction
  • Strong communication & leadership skills
  • Valid driver's license
