SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

Under direction of the Budget Director, routinely performs responsible professional accounting/budgeting work in the development and maintenance of accounting and budgeting records, forecasts and procedures. Performs related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

The Budget Analyst class differs from the higher level Budget Director class in that the latter is a directing level working class where assigned duties are more complex professional accounting/budgeting work in the development and maintenance of budgeting forecasts exercising a higher level of independent judgment. The Budget Analyst position is routine in nature and works under the direction of the Budget Director.

EXEMPLARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Routinely accumulates, sorts and compiles budget information; in collaboration with supervisor, prepares budget documents for presentation and approval by the Board of Trustees and for submission to required agencies; prepares forecasts and budget projections on a regular basis; utilize position budgeting system to prepare salary and benefit projections and other reports; prepares annual budget packets for schools and departments; assist school and department personnel regarding budget reports; assists in preparation of annual budget document; update budget information for interactive budget; prepares revisions to annual budgets; maintains budget control; makes budget adjustments and/or transfers as required; maintains database information for financial and budget reports; maintains personnel database; examines financial documents and verifies with books of entry; reviews subsidiary ledgers and journals, and reports the status of accounts as needed; and conducts special financial and accounting studies as required or assists in such studies.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

Education/Experience : Any combination equivalent to education and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:
  • Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or

  • university with a major in accounting or any other related field;

    AND
  • Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in govern-

  • mental budgeting and accountings.

    Knowledge of : Accounting systems, as well as payroll procedures and systems, budgeting, budget control and fiscal forecasting; methods and procedures of governmental accounting, budgeting, auditing and financial accounting, particularly in an educational environmental; principles of supervision.

    Skill at : Communicating effectively verbally and in writing; analyzing, evaluating and making recommendations on improving budgeting and accounting systems; preparing various budget documents, forecasts and projections; staff supervision and interacting effectively with a wide variety of professional personnel.

    Salary Range: $59, 161 - $91, 184

    Salaries are subject to adjustment and may increase and decrease each fiscal year. New employees hired by Washoe County School District are normally placed on the entry step of the grade of the position.

    The Washoe County School District pays an additional legislatively-designated amount to the Public Employees Retirement System on behalf of the employee for retirement benefits. No retirement contribution is made by the employee.

    New employees as of January 1, 2018 will be fingerprinted upon hire and every five years thereafter. New employees will have $55.00 deducted from their first paycheck to help defray the cost of fingerprinting. Non-licensed employees will have $55 deduction when their fingerprints are completed every five years. Fingerprint fees are subject to change.
