The Section of Pulmonary / Critical Care within the Medicine Service at the WJB Dorn VAMC in Columbia, SC seeks a physician experienced in caring for medical intensive care unit (MICU) patients. The Dorn VAMC is a level 1C teaching 204-bed hospital that includes an 8-bed MICU. Dorn provides a full range of patient care clinical services, education, and research. The hospital serves an increasing number and increasingly diverse Veteran population with our most ill patients cared for in an intensive care setting. Dorn is a teaching facility affiliated with the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. The MICU is directed by the Pulmonary / Critical Care section. A team-based approach including the pulmonary staff, a nationwide VA tele-ICU service, and a full scope of consultative medical and surgical support is available for the comprehensive care of the ICU patient. The successful candidate would provide clinical care to our ICU hospitalized Veterans typically rounding on 2-8 patients daily. Primary responsibilities are admissions, discharges, ongoing care of ICU inpatients utilizing an electronic medical record, bedside procedures, and working with consultative physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and the VA tele-ICU service. Our ICU is staffed 24/7/365 and coverage during nights and weekends with commensurate time-off is a prerequisite. The candidate will have formal training in Internal Medicine, preferably with a Pulmonary Critical Care or Critical Care only subspecialty training, but other critical care experience will be considered. ABIM (or equivalent) Board Eligibility / Certification is strongly preferred. Advanced Cardiac Life Support / Basic Life Support certification is required and can be provided on-site if not current. Advanced airway management skills preferred and can be credentialed on-site.
