The Juvenile Health Services program has two clinics-Juvenile Hall Health Clinic and Orangewood Family Health Clinic. JUVENILE HEALTH SERVICES Juvenile Health Services (JHS) is a division of CHS. It provides medical, dental, nursing, infection control, health education and pharmaceutical services at a community standard of care to youth who reside in the County's four residential facilities operated by Probation and Social Services Departments and contracts with hospitals for inpatient and specialty care. THE OPPORTUNITY The Pharmacy Technician will assist the on-site registered Pharmacist with dispensing prescription medications to customers or health professionals as ordered by the prescribers. The pharmacy is in the Main Jail facility in Santa provides medications to adult inmates in the five County jail facilities and to juveniles housed at Juvenile Hall and the Juvenile Camp sites. In addition, the pharmacy oversees the ordering of medications for the Orangewood Children and Family Center (OCFC). Introduction This examination is being given to fill one part-time opportunity in the Correctional Health Services Department and to establish a referral pool to fill future vacancies. Correctional Health Services provides health care to adult inmates at the San Joaquin County jail facility, located at 7000 Michael N. Canlis Blvd, French Camp, CA 95231. The care is mandated by Title 15, Division 1, Sub-Chapter IV of the California Regulatory Code. To work in the County jail facility, applicants must pass a rigorous security clearance which is a condition of employment. Some classifications assigned to the Correctional Health facility may receive a 5% pay supplement. TYPICAL DUTIES Fill IV admixtures, calculates quantities/dosages, select correct drugs and solutions; ensures proper mixing or connection; labels and notes storage conditions and precautions; calculates medication titrations. Maintains security of narcotics, fills orders, maintains narcotic dispensing, return and destruction records, and prepares reports. Ensures adequate levels of floor stock, recommends par levels, monitors re-supply of stock, repackages unit dose to bulk, bulk to unit dose; restocks pharmacy bulk and unit dose stock and ancillaries; restocks automatic filling devices; returns unused unit dose medications to stock and credits patient accounts. Assists in compiling patient information on allergies or for specialized medications, protocols or programs; fills clinic orders, reviews orders with patient care staff to clarify or correct discrepancies. Assists in filling prescriptions; selects proper drug, places in container in quantity and strength prescribed, applies labels; selects unit doses and places in cassettes, places for pharmacist review; compounds simple ointments and solutions; orients and trains pharmacy technicians, interns and students on technician duties. Accepts prescriptions, verifies patient insurance and information; transcribes and enters orders into computer; prepares labels, updates patient profiles and records; submits for billing, identifies orders not on formulary, notifies pharmacist of formulary, drug interaction and other problems identified by computer. Delivers medication to inpatient units; reviews medication orders with patient care staff and corrects discrepancies; assist outpatients at counter, verifies identity, provides refill medications, and collects co-payments. Inspects floor stock and removes medications close to expiration; maintains stock of specified drugs in pharmacy, clinics and nursing areas; insures that adequate supplies are available for normal usage; receives samples and stores patient samples; checks in and stores shipments; repackages drugs into bulk or unit dose. Maintains cleanliness of pharmacy and other storage and dispensing areas. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education : Completion of a recognized Pharmacy Technician training program. Experience : One year of experience equivalent to Pharmacy Technician I in San Joaquin County. License : Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a Pharmacy Technician issued by the State of California Board of Pharmacy. Work experience section must include job title, employer name and address, name of work area/facility, actual payroll title held and not the working and/or functional titles, from/to dates of employment including month, day and year, total number of months, total number of hours worked per week - not a range of hours (full or part-time), complete and detailed description of related job duties.
