The Student Conservation Association (SCA), America’s #1 conservation service organization, seeks qualified applicants to lead, educate, and inspire Bay Area high school students for this summer, 2018. Passionate individuals are paid to co-lead a crew of high school students, facilitating both project management and youth development. Your high school crew members are paid to work outside, learn and practice ecological conservation, and gain professional work experience and leadership skills. Leadership positions are based in Oakland, San Francisco, San Mateo, and Vallejo, CA.
Program Dates:
- June 25th to August 17th (Vallejo crews);
- July 2nd to August 10th (SF and San Mateo crews);
- July 2nd to August 3rd (Oakland crew)
- Training Dates: June 11th to June 21st 2018
Primary Responsibilities:
- Act as a Crew Manager guiding positive crew dynamics and facilitating teamwork
- Co-lead/supervise a crew of 10 high school students in outdoor conservation work, including habitat restoration and trail work.
- Drive participants safely to and from work each day based out of SF, Oakland, Vallejo, or San Mateo. SCA vehicle provided.
- Ensure positive crew dynamics, and promote individuals’ leadership development.
- Lead crew on one overnight camping trip (Vallejo and Oakland crews camp for multiple weeks)
- Each Friday: lead a full day of environmental education activities, recreation field trips, or professional development activities
- Function as a Technical Advisor assisting in training members to complete quality work and supervising safe tool use
- Serve as a Partnership Representative managing relationships with agency partner and ensuring successful and timely completion of work projects
- Perform tasks as a Program Administrator by communicating with SCA staff, completing documentation, managing a budget, managing equipment, and ensuring compliance with the SCA Risk Management policies.
