MENTAL HEALTH TECH

Location: EDINBURG, TX 78539

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Tech – MH/BH provides direct care, monitoring, assistance, and advocacy for behavioral health clients and support to professional staff by performing a wide variety of duties.  Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Basic EKG skills required

Computer data entry skills required.

Must be able to demonstrate previous work experience following regimented job duties and time schedules when working previously held positions.

One year behavioral health or direct patient care experience preferred.

Must be able to lead group activities such as group discussions, crafts, games, etc as prescribed.

Knowledge of basic practices, procedures and techniques involved in working all populations requiring mental health or substance abuse treatment preferred.

Ability to develop and maintain the confidence and cooperation of patients suffering from behavioral health issues; communicate clearly and diplomatically with other members of the behavioral health team; keep accurate records; understand and carry out oral and written directions, computer skills.

Willingness to be crossed trained to other areas.

Must demonstrate commitment and adherence to STHS’s Compliance Program and Code of Conduct through compliance with all policies and procedures, the Code of Conduct, attendance at required training and immediately reporting suspected compliance issue(s) to the Compliance Officer.

 EDUCATION / LICENSURE:

High school Diploma or GED equivalent

Effective October 11, 2009 must have certified nurse aide OR EMT/Paramedic OR PCT certification for The State of Texas OR medical assistant certification and remain current thereafter, OR six months previous experience in similar role with a behavioral health facility. Will consider an Associate’s or higher advanced degree, with a major in a health-related field.

Must have and maintain BLS certification.

Must obtain HeartSaver First Aid certification within 30 days of employment.

Must obtain Satori Alternatives to Managing Aggression (SAMA) certification within 90 days of starting unit orientation.

Must be able to travel as needed to STHS facilities.
