Organization Summary:

The Sexual Violence Center, an independent 501(c)3 nonprofit, is a dedicated rape crisis center. We support people whose lives have been affected by sexual assault, sexual harassment, cyber bullying, stalking, trafficking/exploitation, childhood sexual abuse and other forms of sexual violence. Our advocates provide support to youth and adults affected by sexual violence through our 24-hour telephone crisis line, individual counseling, support groups, medical and legal advocacy at no cost.

Hours: Full-time exempt, salaried position. SVC office is open 8am - 8pm Mon - Thursday and 8am - 4pm Fridays, working hours are flexible within those times. Occasional evenings, overnights and weekends.

Primary Duties:

Day-to-Day Agency Management

  • Provide leadership and direction to staff and volunteer advocates.
  • Nurture positive partnerships with key agencies that maintain formal working relationships with SVC including sexual assault nurse examiner programs, law enforcement departments, county attorneys and other social service organizations.

Leadership in Support of SVC's Mission

  • Support SVC's anti-oppression focus by proactively seeking ways to integrate an anti-oppression framework into all agency activities.
  • Build relationships with other service providers, organizations and government entities to develop new programs, offer technical assistance related to sexual violence and build our agency's capacity to meet the holistic needs of victim/survivors.

Lead the Agency as a Model of Sexual Assault Advocacy

  • Support and direct advocates to ensure a consistent standard of service delivery across three counties.
  • Push the envelope in the struggle against rape culture with the media, politicians, funders and the public.
  • Participate in the team approach to direct services at SVC by personally providing services to victim/survivors. This could include legal advocacy, medical advocacy and counseling, depending upon personal interest.

External Communications and Marketing

  • Lead the agency's public presence through media coverage, including providing interviews and factual information to print, radio, online and television journalists.

Financial Management

  • Create and manage the agency's annual budget.
  • Supervise the work of the agency's consultant bookkeeping service to ensure vendor payments, internal and external financial reporting are accurate and conducted in a timely manner.

Human Resources

  • Responsible for continual development of the agency's staffing structure, to best respond to workload, skill set of existing staff and emerging programmatic demands on staff time.
  • Staff recruitment, including formation of current job descriptions and compelling vacancy announcements. Organize candidate interviews, including assembling interview panels and questions/scenarios/practical exercises for candidates.

Administration

  • Act in the capacity as ultimate authority over the administrative functions of the agency.
  • Supervise compilation of accurate agency service statistics.
  • Supervise coordination with crisis line telephone vendor; troubleshoot routine service interruptions.

Legal

  • Together with the Board of Directors, act as an officer of SVC, a 501(c)3 non-profit, bearing legal and financial responsibility for the agency.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state and federal laws.

Resource Mobilization

  • Develop timely, thorough and creative programmatic and statistical reporting to current donors to increase their confidence in the impact of their support for SVC.
  • Participate in all agency fundraising events and initiatives.
  • Lead the agency's relationships with individual donors, including ensuring timely acknowledgement of gifts.

Support for the Leadership of the Board of Directors

  • Advise the board, including recommending policies.
  • Proactively share and explain pertinent information with members of the board in order to best support them to act as officers of and provide oversight for SVC.

Experience:

At least seven years of staff management experience is required for this position. (Non-profit-specific management experience is preferred, but those from outside of our field who can demonstrate how their experience is applicable and skills can be transferred are welcome to apply.)

  • Proven success creating and growing service (or non-profit) programs.
  • Experience managing the financial health of an organization.
  • Completed, or willing to complete, sexual assault advocacy training in compliance with MN SS595.02(k).

This is a full-time, salaried position with compensation commensurate with experience. The person filling this role will be based out of our office in Minneapolis with some travel across the three counties of Hennepin, Carver and Scott and occasionally longer distances. The successful candidate must have reliable access to a properly-insured vehicle and a current driver's license. SVC office hours are 8am-8pm Mon-Thurs and Fridays 8am-4pm. Staff work a flexible schedule within these hours, with occasional work at night or on the weekend.
