The PSAS school network is seeking a principal to open the newly expanded campus in Pueblo’s salt creek neighborhood.  The school will be based on the Paideia philosophy as well as have a strong emphasis on STEAM.  The principal will be working with the director to successfully launch an expansion of the current PSAS charter school that has been in operation for 22 years.  This position will begin in April 2017, and the initial responsibilities of the principal will be to participate in the hiring of the PSAS at Fulton Heights staff.   This new school will still be based on many of the same elements of the original campus, but the main focus will be on industry, STEM and Maker school concepts.  Our hope is to create a school that gives students the foundation and skills needed to be successful in careers that focus on industry, and high tech jobs that require solid foundation in hands on creation and technological skill.

The school will open in the fall of 2017 with grades Kindergarten through 5th grade. 25 students per grade level with a total of 150 students. Grades 6th through 8th will be added for a total enrollment of 225 students.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Title:          Principal Pueblo School for Arts and Sciences at Fulton Heights

Department:             Administrative Team

Reports To:             Director

Salary Range:         Starting at $65,000

Position Type:        Salaried/Exempt

Direct Reports:       All teachers; Librarian; Counselor; other personnel directly involved in the education process

Schedule:                 Extended School Year (3 days after teachers leave and 7 days before teachers return) 

MAJOR FUNCTION:

The Principal will focus almost exclusively on the education and long-term success of PSAS’ students, which will require the Principal to work with teachers and students on a daily basis and be intimately involved in the success of both teachers and students. The Principal will work closely with and report directly to the School Director. The Principal will be responsible for all areas pertaining to instruction, curriculum, special education, pupil services, and implementation of educational technology, attendance, and school safety.  This person will be required to oversee all extra-curricular activities including off premise events.  The Principal is required to meet with grade level/content teams on a regular basis for guidance and goal setting.  This position is responsible for monitoring and enforcing building safety and security; assisting in planning and implementing student programs; and assisting in the development and implementation of the school improvement plan. 

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Colorado principal license or eligible for same at time duties are assumed.

  • Minimum of 7 years as a fulltime classroom teacher.

  • Three years of experience as a lead teacher and/or supervisory position.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s in Educational Administration from an accredited college or university.

  • Proven record in launching new ventures or major initiatives.

  • Experience with increasing student achievement and engagement in learning.

  • Three or more years as assistant principal / principal or other administrative capacity in a K-12 setting.

  • Demonstrated ability in excellent interpersonal relations and oral and written communication skills with strong decision making, analytical and organizational skills.

  • Experience in dealing with students and staff with diverse needs at various levels.

  • Experience developing, implementing, and monitoring attendance policies and procedures.

  • Experience in assisting with program planning and implementation for recipient groups (e.g., gifted and talented, ELL, non-categorical, special education, at-risk, etc.).

  • Experience in the development and implementation of the school improvement plan, including staff development.

  • Experience assisting in implementing and gathering student data.

  • Experience working in a charter school.

  • Experience and knowledge of evaluating instructors and other school staff.
