BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials, and equipment of grade level(s) or instructional speciality(ies) to which assigned; knowledge of child growth and development; knowledge of Prince William County Public Schools curriculum, program of studies related to assignments and public school mission, goals, and organization; ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs; ability to plan and implement lessons using the Instructional Process and based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of assigned students; ability to utilize multi-media and computer technology, as appropriate; ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents; skill in oral and written communication; excellent human relations skills.

STATE REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a Collegiate Professional, Post Graduate Professional, or appropriate vocational license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia with endorsement(s) required for teaching assignment(s). Must be eligible for Virginia Teacher Certification Program or licensure.

BASIC FUNCTION/NATURE OF WORK:
Under the general supervision of a principal and or other designated administrator, plans and implements an instructional program and provides related educational services for students in grades K-5. Manages student behavior, assesses and evaluates student achievement, and modifies instructional activities as required; carries out a variety of student monitoring and control activities; performs related duties as assigned. Positions covered by this specification serve as general education, elementary classroom teachers (K-5); classes taught may be single or team or departmental setting, but teachers might work independently in a unique teaching specialty. Some positions are assigned to reading or technology labs.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES/ILLUSTRATIVE EX OF WORK:
NOTHING IN THIS SPECIFICATION SHALL BE CONSTRUED AS IN CONFILCT WITH ANY PROVISION OF THE TEACHER PERFORMANCE EVALUATION PROGRAM, ITS STANDARDS, GUIDELINES, OR PERFORMANCE INDICATORS. The responsibilities of teachers shall include, but not be limited to: 1. Work collaboratively with all stake holders in providing a world-class education 2. Implementing an instructional program, which provides appropriate learning, experiences for each student. 3. Delivering instruction in adherence to the Prince William County Curriculum documents regarding specific teaching assignments. 4. Assessing student abilities as related to desired educational goals, objectives, and outcomes. 5. Planning appropriate instructional and /or learning strategies and activities, including determination of appropriate principles of learning, classroom organizational structures, and kind and level of materials. 6. Being responsible for student accounting. 7. Manages the behavior of learners in instructional setting to ensure environment is conducive to the learning process, and assists and participates in management of student behavior in other parts of the school, school grounds, and during lunch. This will not include the duty-free lunch, except in emergency situations. No student should be left alone. 8. Cooperating with and participating in the planning and the evaluation of the school program. 9. As needed, requests assistance of and works with resource personnel. 10. Participating in the in-service education program of the schools and school system. 11. Coordinates instructional activities and collaborates with other professional staff both school and non school-based, as required, to maximize learning opportunities. 12. Following the ethics of the profession. 13. Supporting actively a parent/teacher or parent/student organization and promoting parent/teacher partnerships. 14. Enforcing policies and regulations as established by the Prince William County School Board and staff in accordance with any program guidelines. 15. Supervising pupil activities in buildings and on grounds during and after school hours and being responsible for the conduct and safety of students in the classroom and on school ground. No group of students should be left unattended. 16. Demonstrating prompt and accurate written communications and reports. 17. Adhering to county and school disciplinary procedures 18. Complete other duties as assigned.
