Pioneer Counseling Services in Spokane currently provides intensive outpatient services to individuals who are in the pre-conviction Spokane County Therapeutic Drug Court program or eligible under the Criminal Justice Treatment Account, Revised Code of Washington (CJTA RCW). Patients who attend the program have a felony linked to substance use and many also have mental health conditions.

This is a shared position between Pioneer Counseling and Spokane RRC.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Chemical Dependency Professional is responsible to provide quality treatment services to individuals with Substance Use disorders at Pioneer Human Services (PHS) using evidence-based and promising practices, effectively meeting the need of PHS' clientele; and documenting treatment and case management service provision in a timely and effective manner.

This position supports the Behavioral Health Division of Pioneer Human Services by ensuring the provision of quality and cost effective chemical dependency services.

POSITION DUTIES & TASKS

Substance Use Disorder Services (65%)

• Under supervision, the CDP provides evidence-based and /or promising substance use disorder services through counseling, problem-solving and case management services based upon identified treatment needs specified in the client’s Individual Service Plan and in accordance with agency policy, incumbent’s education, training and certification.

• Diagnoses substance use disorders in accordance with the most recently published Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (e.g. DSM-5) and ASAM requirements.

• Compliance with treatment documentation and filing requirements according to WAC, agency and funder policies.

• Maintains complete and accurate documentation of all activities including, but not limited to: case files and records, progress notes, case plans, reports, case summaries and billing information) on a professional, self-directed basis.

• De-escalate on-site crisis (treatment).

• Interacts and corresponds with in-house treatment team and staff, community partners, as needed, in support of treatment.(treatment).

• Develops and maintains working knowledge of community resources.

• Interacts with community partners, as needed, in support of treatment.

Quality Assurance (15%)

• Maintains quality of care consistent with or exceeding standards set by State of Washington regulations and any other accrediting and/or contracting bodies with whom Pioneer Human Services does business.

• Adheres to professional and ethical standards for Chemical Dependency Professionals.

• Provides professionally written documentation and correspondence.

• Completes file reviews as requested and needed.

Clinical Supervision and Training (15%)

• Participates in clinical supervision in accordance with WAC/RCW requirements.

• Participates in agency supervision.

• Obtains other training required by WAC and in accordance with annual training plan.

• Provides assistance and modeling to students, CDPTs and new employees.

• Promotes and models teamwork and collaboration with co-workers.

• Participates in staff meetings.

• Attends other meetings as directed (i.e., weekly court meetings and graduations).

Performs other duties as required (5%)

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work Setting, including hazards:

• Work is performed almost exclusively indoors in an office environment, residential or inpatient setting, or jail setting depending upon assignment.

• Exposure to hazards is limited to those commonly found in these various environments.

Schedule (i.e. hours and days):

• Monday - Friday; 9:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.

Travel Requirements:

• Some travel is required, and is typically local or regional, to meet with clients, conduct business, or attend or provide training.

• Therefore, incumbent must be able to independently travel to alternate work locations as needed.

Tools & Equipment:

• Duties require the use of standard office furniture and equipment (i.e., desk, filing cabinet, computer, printer, telephone, fax machine, copy machine, etc.)

• Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint.

Customer Interactions:

• Daily contact with clients, including some contact with those who may be angry, depressed distraught, or frustrated and/or under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.

Other:

• Likely to work with clients who have both chemical dependency and mental health disorders.

• Will work with individuals who have criminal histories and/or identified criminogenic risk factors.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Qualifications

• Must be registered with the Department of Health as a Chemical Dependency Professional (CDP) in the State of Washington.

• Two years' acceptable experience in chemical dependency field.

• Must be able to pass and maintain security clearances as required by the Geiger Corrections Center.

Preferred/Desirable Qualifications

• A.A. or B.A. degree.

• Additional experience desired: experience in residential treatment or outpatient treatment, or working with individuals with co-morbid disorders.

• Advanced training in group process or educational programming design according to program needs.
