Morrisania Diagnostic Treatment Center delivers patient-centered, effective and cost-efficient health services. As part of our patient care, we appoint a personal healthcare provider for each patient. The healthcare provider serves as a care coordinator, working with the primary care physicians, nursing staff, social workers and nutritionists to ensure that we meet your medical, psychological and emotional needs. PURPOSE OF POSITION:




Under the direction of the Chief Medical Officer of Gotham and in coordination with lead administrative and nursing personnel, the Medical Director provides leadership for providers, other support services, clinical education programs, Performance Improvement initiatives and other health related services within available resources and consistent with Health and Hospitals Corporation policy and priorities.




DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:




The Medical Director is responsible for the professional services provided within the Center. His/her responsibilities and duties shall include, but not be limited to:




Supervision of physicians, dentists, mid-level providers, post-graduate trainees, and medical students, as applicable, setting expectations, monitoring, documenting and managing the performance of all clinical staff, both at Morrisania and at off-sites.




Ensure that the quality of care provided to patients is defined and monitored and that plans of correction are implemented when monitoring reveals that care does not meet defined quality standards.




Develop and implement plans for providing professional services consistent with the requirements of the New York City and State Departments of Health, the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation and other accreditation and regulatory agencies, as appropriate.




Exercise responsibility for the quality and safety of Direct Patient Care Services including, but not limited to, the coordination of clinical services and ongoing performance improvement activities and compliance with all Performance Indicators, within the various appointed specialty areas.




Monitor and ensure implementation of the quality assurance program of the clinical departments and participate in facility-wide quality assurance efforts, including Peer Review.




Design, implement and manage policies, systems and processes within the facility to ensure the efficient achievement of established goals.




Participate in developing budgets and advising leadership about the adequacy and appropriateness of the scope of services, medical equipment and the professional and support staff.




Help recruit and retain sufficient staff to meet the needs of our patients.




Participate as requested in setting the strategic direction for New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation (“HHC”) and this facility and promoting the interests of our clinic, our community and our patients.




Translate strategic direction into a clear set of performance goals and priorities for the facility, including but not limited to initiatives around PCMH, FQHC, Health Home, ACO.




Represent Morrisania with Health and Hospitals Corporation and with other institutions when necessary, and participate in system-wide HHC and Gotham specialty leadership as designated by HHC’s and Gotham’s Chief Medical Officers.

Assure appropriate support and mentorship for providers new to the facility and/or new to clinical practice.

Comply with all applicable state or federal laws, regulations or rules and policies of HHC.

Provide direct clinical care to patients.

Assist in the preparation for regulatory surveys of all areas.




Encourage research in the facility within the guidelines of the Health and Hospitals Corporation and Gotham.




Participate in Breakthrough Events both personally and at departmental levels.




Attend team meetings and other departmental and intra/inter hospital meetings as required.




Serve as chair of the Quality Management Executive Review Committee and on various committees of the facility.




Assist in and facilitate presentations, training, committees, special studies, research, chart review, and in-service as required.




Maintain Patient Safety and Infection Control Protocol as per Network and Departmental Policies.




Uphold environmental safety standards to assure safety of patients and staff.




Foster/exercise Service Excellence in daily activities, when dealing with general public and staff.

Medical degree from an accredited medical school with at least three (3) or more years of postgraduate medical training.

•Five (5) year’s total experience post-medical degree, including clinical practice.


•Experience managing people and/or departments.


•Must be licensed to practice medicine in the State of New York.


•Strong clinical, leadership and communication skills.

Bilingual: English/Spanish- Preferred.
