Position Summary:
Provides overall medical direction for Presurgical Testing (PST).

The Director of Preoperative Services coordinates and participates in a variety of administrative and clinical activities related to the provision of Preoperative patient care services. Supervises staff and develops, implements and monitors policies and procedures consistent with hospital objectives. Works with members of the medical staff to ensure that the medical plan of care is implemented and collaborates with physicians to alter plan of care as needed

Directs the medical assessment and evaluation processes for patients who are scheduled for invasive procedures such as surgical intervention, interventional radiology and labor and delivery. The Medical Director of PAT will oversee the clinical performance of advance practice professional staff in PAT and will work collaboratively with Anesthesia staff (residents/fellows) assigned to PAT and the unit’s Nurse Manager.
Build and maintain excellent relationships with physicians and their practices and is accountable for quality and patient safety indicators relevant to peri-operative services.
Ensure optimal and efficient pre op testing and consultation in keeping with current medical guidelines to ensure patient safety.
Understands, institutes and follows the most up to date practice advisory on pre admission testing from the American Society of Anesthesiologists
Ensure efficient patient throughput in PAT.
Ensure optimal patient satisfaction with the PAT process.
Participate in screening patients to determine if optimally prepared for surgery.
Supervise and mentor anesthesia residents assigned to the clinic, including discussing latest literature, guidelines for testing, management and pharmacology of medications.
Evaluate resident performance in accordance with departmental policy and guidelines
