Position Summary

The Medical Staff Specialist is accountable for ensuring the hospital credentialing and privileging process is completed efficiently and effectively in accordance with established guidelines and follows all Medical Staff Bylaws and policies at our client hospital locations.  Travel locally in NE to client hospital sites as well as travel to hospital sites in Florida and Chicago may be required.

Essential Functions (including, but not limited to)

  • Request, review, complete and submit all applications for privileges at assigned hospitals
    • Work with clinicians and recruiters to gather necessary credentials
    • Perform verifications per current company protocols to include receipt of responses and follow-up
    • Analyze all information and documents and review for accuracy and completion, initiating further investigation when necessary
    • Prepare completed applications for review by Credentials Committee
  • Oversee reappointments and renewal of clinical privileges as required
    • Ensure forms are mapped appropriately each year and maintain all information according to hospital-specific standards
    • Prepare and maintain reappointment data reports
    • Evaluate volume of reappointments to be processed and determine process to ensure completion in a timely manner
    • Analyze verifications and quality reports and determine whether to accept or initiate further investigation
  • Provide guidance and assistance to applicants and reapplicants, recruiters, and management on initial and reappointment application deficiencies, medical staff policies, and any other issues related to the credentialing and privileging process
  • Receive and process all requests for temporary privileges and additional privileges, ensuring regulatory and policy compliance
  • Build and maintain relationships with the Medical Staff departments of client hospitals and act as a liaison between clinicians and those departments
  • Communicate frequently with clinicians on expiring credentials and delinquent medical records
  • Assist with Scheduling of clinicians in emergency situations
  • Other Operational duties as assigned by the Director of Operations

Minimum Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in business, healthcare administration, or related field preferred; experience will be considered in lieu of degree
  • Minimum three years of experience in medical staff credentialing and reappointment
  • Working knowledge of regulatory and accrediting organization standards
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities while adhering to deadlines
  • Must be detail-oriented
  • Excellent communication and critical-thinking skills
  • Proficient with MS Office applications
  • Ability to travel to client-hospitals in Florida and Chicago when necessary
  • Experience with Tangier scheduling software and Cactus a plus
