DESCRIPTION

Road Maintenance 2 - (Cottage Grove and Eugene/Springfield Road Crews) (I003)

To operate medium to heavy equipment in construction, maintenance or waste management projects and to perform skilled manual tasks on highway, bridges, landfills, transfer sites and other construction or maintenance projects.

NOTE: Public Works is looking to fill several fulltime vacancies on its Cottage Grove-based Road Crew and its Eugene/Springfield-based Road Crew.

Schedule: Monday - Friday; 7:00am - 3:30pm

QUALIFICATIONS

Operates power mowers, rollers, dump truck, loader, spray truck driver, spreader box, self- propelled or truck- or trailer-mounted sweepers, tractors (D-4 or smaller), flatbed truck, distributor truck driver, forklift, curb paver and Vac-Ael driver.

Operates small power equipment and tools such as power saws, chippers, gas-powered mud and water pumps and generators.

Prepares asphalt on paving or patching projects by raking to proper depth prior to rolling.

Prepares materials, manufactures and erects signs, drives paint striper, operates fog line of striper truck, operates stencil truck and all other sign department equipment.

May perform level 3 Road Maintenance duties in a training capacity or out-of-class assignments, provided any required licenses and related requirements have been obtained.

CLASSIFICATION DETAILS

Operation and maintenance of medium to heavy road construction and maintenance equipment.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

Training:
Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.

Experience:
Two years of experience in the operation of a variety of medium road maintenance and construction equipment, including experience performing semi-skilled and skilled tasks.

An equivalent combination of experience and training that will demonstrate the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.

Special Requirements:
Possession of a valid Oregon Class A or B CDL and medical card. It is the responsibility of the employee who holds a valid Class B CDL at time of appointment to obtain a Class A CDL and required CDL endorsements by the end of their probationary period. Employees may be required to obtain an Oregon Spray license or an Explosive Handler's license.

Employees in this classification are required to pass a pre-employment drug test, and to participate in an on-going drug testing program, including, but not limited to, random testing according to requirements of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).
