REQUIREMENTS (duties include but not limited to) • Adult, and Child/Adolescent, and Family Psychiatry Program. • Comprehensive evaluations of children and their families according to the quality assurance guidelines of child and family psychiatry. • History of present illness and past history. Review patient histories and social work evaluations, interview patients to obtain insight into their problems. • Mental status evaluations, formulations, diagnosis(es) and detailed treatment plans utilizing biopsychosocial paradigm. Make referrals for further diagnostic, psychological or medical testing as needed. • Provide individual, group, family, and pharmacologic therapeutic interventions as necessary. • Provide crisis intervention and referral for psychiatric hospitalization. • Provide psychotherapy to include group, individual, behavior modification and pharmacological therapy. • Work as a team member with other psychiatrist(s), social worker(s), psychologist(s), and behavior science specialist(s) to coordinate evaluations, treatment planning, and referrals. The age range of the usual referrals will be anywhere from after birth to the end of the 17th year; however family and parental work with adults will usually be necessary. Determine the need for supplemental data such as psychosocial history, medical history, neurological or other medical procedures or tests, etc. Establish diagnosis and treatment plans for each patient. • Review patient histories and social work evaluations, interview patients to obtain insight into their problems and determine the need for long-term residential treatment for minors. • Liaison with schools or with garrison units to facilitate functional evaluations and appropriate (educational) interventions and (academic) modifications to meet patient’s needs. • The psychiatrist shall comply with the policies of Family Mental Health Service, and local RACH Quality. • Assessment and Improvement policies. In addition, he/she will complete any local performance improvement measures as indicated by the Chief of Family Mental Health Service. • The psychiatrist will display tact and courtesy to all persons, either in person or on the telephone, regardless of circumstances. • When performing in the absence of an adult psychiatrist, contract Child/Adolescent Psychiatrist will be required to treat adults for crisis intervention and ongoing psychotherapy/pharmacological management. • Provide consultation services to inpatient and surgical wards to assist in evaluation treatment and discharge planning for child and adolescent patients. • Provide consultation to pediatrics and internal medicine for inpatient assessment of psychiatrically disturbed children with medical problems. • Assist in planning and implementing primary prevention efforts at the MTF to include directing support groups and parenting classes. QUALIFICATIONS • Must be a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO). • Must hold a current valid license to legally practice the specialty of psychiatry in one of the 50 states in the United States, or the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a U.S. Territory. • Must have completed a psychiatric residency and child and adolescent fellowship training approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. • Must have sufficient experience to effectively provide psychiatric medical services for patients and family members as it relates to family therapy. • Must have worked at least one of the past three years with children and adolescents. Be competent to treat children and adolescents for crisis intervention and ongoing psychotherapy/pharmacological management. • Must have and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate from the American Heart Association, and be able to respond to cardiopulmonary arrests as appropriate, and arrange appropriate backup from the hospital clinical staff. • The psychiatrist must possess controlled substances registration certificate from the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) IAW the laws of the state in which they are licensed.
