Healthcare System in SE Florida is seeking a Medical Director of Centralized Utilization Review/ Health Information Management to join its team of physician leaders. The successful candidate will proactively work to ensure appropriate utilization and documentation in care delivery that is consistent with the highest of quality standards and best practices. The successful candidate will serve as a resource to the medical staff for clinical effectiveness (CE) and health information activities. Duties will include education and communication to the medical staff regarding the benefits/need for appropriate utilization and documentation. Effective decision-making skills are necessary regarding referred individual patient cases including: pre-admission, authorization, medical necessity and services/setting, transfers, appropriateness of admission, and continued stay. Duties will also include regular follow-up and focused chart audits/reviews (concurrent and retrospective) for the purpose of assessing the accuracy of clinical documentation and utilization. The incumbent will serve as a resource to the transfer center, will promote standardization of cost-effective treatment, and will research, develop, and present educational programs and presentations to physicians, mid-level providers and other key clinical staff related to clinical documentation improvement, disease process, and physician query formation.

Applicants should demonstrate excellent communication and critical thinking skills in addition to decisive judgment. Prior experience as a Chief Medical Officer or Medical Director with a background in utilization management is required, including at least three years of medical staff organization/administrative experience in a large acute care hospital and/or multi-hospital system. The candidate should also be a graduate of a medical school approved by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association. An active medical license in the state of Florida will be required. The position offers competitive benefits and a compensation package that is commensurate with training and experience.
